Lahti, Santoni and Kolste Snag Weekly Conference Laurels

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Lewis & Clark’s Pete Lahti, George Fox’s Jason Santoni and Whitworth’s Ian Kolste were named the Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week for week three, the conference announced on Monday.

Lahti (Lincoln City, Ore.), a junior defensive back, snagged an interception with 13:04 remaining in the fourth quarter, which led to a field goal that put Lewis & Clark up by three possessions as the Pioneers snapped a 33-game losing streak. Lahti recorded a team-high six tackles and his interception was the third takeaway.

Santoni (Central Point, Ore.), a sophomore kicker, became the second Bruin to earn NWC Student-Athlete of the Week honors after helping lead the Bruins to a 13-10 upset victory over No. 21 Redlands. Santoni recorded seven of the Bruins’ 13 points with two made field goals and an average of 48.4 yards per punt. His second field goal was blocked, which is why he went 2-3. He third field goal was the game-winner from a career-best 48 yards. He recorded five punts for 242 yards and pinned the Bulldogs inside the 20 once.

Kolste (Oak Harbor, Wash.), a senior quarterback, picked up his second NWC Student-Athlete of the Week nod of the season after playing the first two quarters of the Pirates’ win over LaVerne, but that was enough to stake Whitworth to a 43-0 lead at halftime. He completed a season high 80.6-percent of his passes for 291 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. Along the way he broke Pirate school records for career passing yards and career TD passes. He now has thrown for 8,658 yards and 72 touchdowns in his Whitworth career.
