Puget Sound Leads the Race for 2014-15 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy

Hillsboro, Ore. - The University of Puget Sound leads the Northwest Conference in the hunt for the 2014-15 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy after the conclusion of the fall season.

The Loggers earned an NWC championship title in women's soccer, finished second in men's cross country and third in men's soccer, women's cross country and women's volleyball for a total of 85 points.

Whitworth University follows closely behind with 83 points, earning an NWC Championship in men's soccer, a share of the women's volleyball NWC title and a second-place finish in women's cross country. Willamette University earns the third spot with 76 points.  The Bearcats earned the NWC Championship crown in both men's and women's cross country, while finishing second in men's soccer.

Linfield College and Pacific Lutheran University are tied for fourth-place with 66 points a piece.  The Wildcats were co-champions in football with Pacific University (Ore.), while the Lutes were co-champions in women's volleyball this fall.

Whitman College (57 pts.), Lewis & Clark College (40 pts.), Pacific (38 pts.) and George Fox University (25) round out the final spots in the McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy standings.

The Northwest Conference All-Sports Trophy recognizes athletic excellence among Northwest Conference institutions across all fields of competition. It is named in honor of John Lewis, the baseball coach (1947-72), basketball coach (1947-67) and athletics director (1952- 72) at Willamette University; and Jane McIlroy, Linfield College's women's athletics director and physical education professor from 1950- 82 who also coached field hockey (1952-81), basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis.
