Whitworth Leads the Race for 2014-15 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy After Winter Season

Hillsboro, Ore. - Whitworth University leads the Northwest Conference in the hunt for the 2014-15 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy after the conclusion of the winter season.

The Pirates earned an NWC championship title in men's basketball, while finishing second in men's swimming and third in both women's basketball and women's swimming for a total of 145 points.

The University of Puget Sound follows closely behind in second with 134 points, finishing second in women's basketball and fourth in both men's and women's swimming.  Whitman College is in the number three spot with 119 points and a NWC Championship title in the men's swimming record books and finishing second in both women's swimming and men's basketball. 

Pacific Lutheran University and Willamette University are tied for fourth with 107 points apiece.   The Lutes took home a Championship trophy in women's swimming, while the Bearcats finished fourth in men's basketball.

Linfield College (94 pts.), Pacific University (70 pts.), Lewis & Clark College (69 pts.) and George Fox University (47) round out the final spots in the McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy standings.

The Northwest Conference All-Sports Trophy recognizes athletic excellence among Northwest Conference institutions across all fields of competition. It is named in honor of John Lewis, the baseball coach (1947-72), basketball coach (1947-67) and athletics director (1952- 72) at Willamette University; and Jane McIlroy, Linfield College's women's athletics director and physical education professor from 1950- 82 who also coached field hockey (1952-81), basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis.
