Whitworth Leads the Race for 2013-14 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy

Hillsboro, Ore. - Whitworth University leads the Northwest Conference in the hunt for the 2013-14 McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy after the conclusion of the winter season.

The Pirates earned an NWC championship title in both men's basketball and men's swimming, while finishing second in women's swimming and third in women's basketball for a total of 136 points.

The University of Puget Sound follows closely behind in second with 133 points, finishing third in men's swimming.  Whitman College is in the number three spot with 119 points and a NWC Championship title in the women's basketball record books. 

Pacific Lutheran University took home a Championship trophy in women's swimming to land in the number four spot in the standings with 110 points.

Willamette University (94 pts.), Linfield College (88 pts.), Lewis & Clark College (82 pts.), Pacific University (76 pts.) and George Fox University (50) round out the final spots in the McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports trophy standings.

The Northwest Conference All-Sports Trophy recognizes athletic excellence among Northwest Conference institutions across all fields of competition. It is named in honor of John Lewis, the baseball coach (1947-72), basketball coach (1947-67) and athletics director (1952- 72) at Willamette University; and Jane McIlroy, Linfield College's women's athletics director and physical education professor from 1950- 82 who also coached field hockey (1952-81), basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis.
