Chris Thompson Wins 2010 Sareault Award

SPOKANE, Wash. - Chris Thompson, formerly the Sports Information Director at Puget Sound, has been selected by his peers within the Northwest Conference as the recipient of the 2009-10 Jack Sareault Award as the conference's Sports Information Director of the Year.

Thompson, who resigned from UPS in May after a five-year tenure with the Loggers, is fifth individual to win the award, which began in 2005-06.

The NWC SID of the Year award is named in honor of Jack Sareault, who served as the conference's SID for 19 years (1978 - 1997). Following his retirement, Sareault spent countless hours building detailed histories of NWC sports. Sareault passed away last fall.

"To win an award that is voted on by my peers is truly special," said Thompson. "The group of SIDs in the NWC is second to none. I'm honored to have been associated with such an amazing group for five years."

Over the course of his five years at Puget Sound, Thompson promoted several national-caliber teams and numerous All-Americans, including All-Time NCAA Division III women's soccer leading scorer Janece Levien. The Loggers hosted NCAA Championship competitions in women's soccer and men's and women's basketball. Thompson also served as the media coordinator for Northwest Conference Championships in cross country, swimming, track & field, tennis and golf.

"While the decision to leave Puget Sound was a difficult one, I look forward to the future and the chance to spend more quality time with friends and family," he said.

In addition to his work at UPS, Thompson was a five-year member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and served three years on the Publications Committee of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Thompson came to Puget Sound in the fall of 2005 after graduating from Central Washington University with a BA in Public Relations.  While at UPS, Thompson earned a Master's of Sports Administration and Leadership from Seattle University in 2008.  He and his wife Lindsay live in Auburn, Washington.
