Wendy Guthrie, a former administrator in the West Coast Conference and Director of Athletics at Seattle University, has been selected as the interim commissioner of the Northwest Conference.

On October 1, 2009, Wendy Guthrie became a consultant for the West Coast Conference on strategic initiatives and policy development. Guthrie served the West Coast Conference in that role through the June 2010 Executive Council Meetings.

Guthrie was promoted in June 2008 to Senior Associate Commissioner/Chief of Staff after serving as Associate Commissioner/SWA since joining the WCC on October 1, 2007 . In these roles, Guthrie served as the senior administrator under the commissioner and had oversight of all internal operations. Guthrie's duties included sport supervision, the management of conference finances, strategic planning initiatives, human resources, and the development and implementation of a new conference governance structure. Guthrie continued to serve as the SWA and oversaw the areas of championships, operations, and compliance. Guthrie also served on the NCAA's Administration Cabinet and the NCAA Committee on Athletics Certification.

Prior to joining the WCC, Guthrie had a stint as the Assistant Director for Administration of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University.

Previously, Guthrie served as Athletics Director at Seattle University from 2004-06. While at SU, Guthrie earned support for a $37.5M Athletics & Recreation Center renovation, oversaw the design of a $1.8M new soccer stadium, and made significant strides in improving the infrastructure of the athletics department. Among the improvements she made to the athletics department was a five-year strategic plan that realized an increase by $242K in operating funds, addition of five new professional and two new graduate assistant positions in the first two years to better align the department with other counterparts in NCAA Division II. Guthrie also launched the development of significant projects to increase the university's visibility, marketability, and fundraising efforts.

Guthrie served as Associate Athletic Director/SWA at the University of San Diego from 1996-2002. During her time at USD, Guthrie was a member of the senior management team and served as the tournament director for the 2001 and 2002 West Coast Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships. She was a leading architect in establishing the Pacific Coast Softball Conference (which includes four teams from West Coast Conference member institutions), and has served as commissioner since its inception in 2002. Guthrie was an adjunct faculty member in the Sport Management Graduate Program at the University of San Francisco in 2002 and 2003.

Guthrie also worked for a corporate hospitality management group at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, held the position as Director of Awards Ceremonies and Torch Run Special Events Manager at the 1995 United States Olympic Festival and was the Assistant Athletics Director/SWA at Saint Francis College, (PA) from 1995-96.

A product of Salem, Oregon, Guthrie received her bachelor's degree in business administration from Whittier College in 1991, and earned her master's degree in athletic administration from Springfield College in 1995.  She is currently working toward an Executive MBA at University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business.
