Nebraska Wesleyan 77, at Willamette 66
Salem, Ore.—(From Cliff Voliva, Willamette SID) Rhea May scored 17 points and the Nebraska Wesleyan women’s basketball team used a 10-point run midway through the first half to defeat Willamette University 77-66 Friday night in Salem.
The Bearcats (5-6), led by Rosie Contri’s 16 points and nine rebounds, pulled to within five points with just over three minutes to play. But a pair of free throws by Lana Crossland and a jumper by Mandy Bornemeier put the game away for the Prairie Wolves.
For Nebraska Wesleyan (5-5), Bornemeier had 13 points and five assists, and Jenny Glantz chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. Ronda Hoffman had six assists for NWU.
For the Bearcats, Jammie Muth tied Contri for game-high scoring honors with 16 points. Simmie Muth added 12 points and four assists.
Nebraska won the battle of the boards 41-33 while shooting 48 percent for the game. The Bearcats shot 40 percent from the field, but only 18 percent from beyond the three-point line.
The Bearcats’ next game is January 4 at home against Northwest Conference foe Whitman.
Scranton (Pa.) 74, Lewis & Clark 41
Phoenix, Ariz. – (From Tom Galbraith, L&C SID) Scranton, ranked in the top 10 in NCAA III, pushed ahead midway through the first quarter with a 19-3 run and never looked back in a 74-41 victory over Lewis & Clark in the first game of the Grand Canyon/Trip Sports Classic held Friday in Phoenix, Ariz.
Nnenna Lewis led the Pioneers with 14 points. Lindsay Sweetland added 12 and a game-high 11 rebounds. The Pioneers, however, shot only 22 percent from the field in the game and committed 29 turnovers.
