2004 NWC Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week
May 2
NWC Hitter of the Week: Jason Miller (PLU, Jr.,
OF, Burlington, Wash.) hit .692 (9/13) in three games at Whitworth.
He had three doubles with four runs batted in and scored two
times.
Honorable Mention: Alex Justus (Linfield, 1B) went 6/8 in two games
with two doubles, a home run and four RBI; Olin Wick (UPS, C) was
7/13 with six RBI and one run scored; Josh Sargent (George Fox, 1B)
went 3/4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored; Kyle Snell
(Whitworth, OF) hit .556 (5/9) with three doubles, one RBI and two
runs in three games; Sean Kinney (Whitman, OF) went 6/12 with a
double, a triple, three runs and one RBI in three games; Ryan
Raagas (Pacific, 3B) was 5/11 in three games, with two doubles,
three runs scored and a run scored.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jeff Jensen
(Willamette, Jr., RHP, Salem, Ore.) defeated L&C with a
complete game, four-hitter, allowing one run while striking out ten
batters and walking only one.
Honorable Mention: Brant Shilliam (Linfield, RHP) did not allow a
run in a title-clinching win over Pacific, giving up four hits and
one walk while striking out five in seven innings; Joe DiPietro
(PLU, RHP) defeated Whitworth 3-1, allowing one run on four hits
and a walk in eight innings; Scott Hyde (George Fox, RHP) defeated
Hayward, allowing two runs on seven hits in eight innings, with 10
strikeouts and one walk; Steve Johnson (Whitman, RHP) pitched eight
innings in a win over UPS, allowing one run on eight hits with two
strikeouts and a walk; Taylor Thompson (UPS, RHP) went seven
innings, allowing one run on eight hits and a walk with ten
strikeouts in a win at Whitman; Kris White (Whitworth, RHP) allowed
three runs on seven hits in eight innings with seven strikeouts and
three walks in win over PLU; Scott Braun (Pacific, RHP) defeated
Linfield by allowing four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts
in seven innings.
April 25
NWC Hitter of the Week: Tye Tinner (George Fox,
So, 3B, Portland, Ore.) led the Bruins to a 3-0 week by hitting
.700 (7/10) with a double and a home run. He drove in eight runs
and scored three times.
Honorable Mention: Joe Wilbur (Pacific, OF) went 8/12 with a
double, a home run, six RBI and five runs scored in three games;
Olin Wick (UPS, C) was 5/11 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI
and five runs scored; Sean Kinney (Whitman, OF) went 7/11 with a
double, a home run, four runs scored and an RBI; Brian Baker
(Linfield, 1B) was 3/10 with two home runs, six RBI and three runs
scored; Danny Pecka (Whitworth, OF) hit .500 (6/12) with a double,
three RBI and four runs scored; Ryan Thorne (PLU, OF) went 9/12
with a double, three RBI and a run scored; Korey Johnson (L&C,
OF) was 4/13 with two doubles and three RBI.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Taylor Thompson (UPS,
So., RHP, Sedro Wooley, Wash.) allowed no runs on two hits in 8.2
innings of a 5-0 shutout of Willamette. He struck out six batters
and walked one.
Honorable Mention: Scott Hyde (George Fox, RHP) struck out 14 in
eight innings, allowing one run (none earned) on three hits and two
walks in a win at L&C; Jordan Rasmussen (Linfield, RHP) allowed
one run (none earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out
nine in a win over Menlo; Scott Braun (Pacific, RHP) allowed one
run on five hits and two walks while striking out 11 in 8.1 innings
of a win over Whitworth; Matt Serr (PLU, RHP) went 7.2 innings of a
win over Whitman, allowing two runs (none earned) on eight hits and
one walk, while striking out two; Pat Thomas (Whitman, RHP) went 7
innings in a win at PLU, allowing three runs on nine hits and four
walks with two strikeouts; Justin McCloskey (L&C, RHP) worked
5.2 innings in a pair of relief appearances, allowing one run on
three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
April 18
NWC Hitter of the Week: Tommy Paterson
(Linfield, Jr., OF, McMinnville, Ore.) led the Wildcats to a 4-0
week, going 10/18 with two home runs, three doubles, six runs
batted in and seven runs scored. He stole three bases, including
home.
Honorable Mention: Justin Whitehall (PLU, OF) went 8/12 with a
double, four runs and four RBI; Drew Pearsall (Whitman, 3B) was
8/14 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored; Adam Azril
(Pacific, SS/P) hit .500 (5/10) with four RBI and three runs
scored; David Peterson (George Fox, SS) went 6/16 with two doubles,
four RBI and two runs scored; Andy Meade (L&C, SS) was 5/15
with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBI; Kyle
Henderson (Whitworth, DH) went 4/12 with three solo home runs and a
double and five runs scored.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Mike Beck (George Fox,
Sr., RHP, Livermore, Calif.) threw a five-hit complete game shut
out of Puget Sound on Sunday, striking out eight and walking two.
He also tossed a 1-2-3 inning at Portland on Wednesday.
Honorable Mention: Eric Maroncelli (L&C, RHP) defeated #21 CSU
Hayward, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in eight
innings while striking out five; Matt Jungmann (Whitman, RHP)
allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits in nine innings of a
no-decision, striking out two and walking two; Matt Serr (PLU)
allowed one run on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts in
seven innings of a win at Willamette; Casey Grove (Linfield, RHP)
went 1-0 in two appearances, allowing four runs (two earned), on
five hits and four walks in six innings, striking out eight.
April 11
NWC Hitter of the Week: Tommy Paterson

hitting two home runs, two doubles and a triple in 12 at bats. He
drove in 10 runners and scored six times.
Honorable Mention: Joe Wilbur (Pacific, OF) went 10/14 with three
doubles and a triple, scoring seven times and driving in one run in
three games; Sam Bunnett (UPS, 1B) was 9/16 with eight RBI and
three runs scored in four wins; Dan Wentzell (George Fox, OF) hit
.455 (5/11) with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and
four RBI; Simon Pollack (Whitman, IF) went 5/11 with a double, two
runs scored and one RBI; Jason Miller (PLU) was 5/12 with a double,
two RBI, and four runs.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Alex Justus (Linfield,
Jr., RHP, Bellevue, Wash.) allowed no runs and only three hits in
seven innings of a win, striking out five and walking one
batter.
Honorable Mention: Chris Owens (UPS) allowed no runs and two hits
in six innings of a win vs. L&C with four strikeouts; Scott
Hyde (George Fox, RHP) allowed three runs on six hits with 10
strikeouts and two walks in a complete-game win at PLU; Scott Braun
(Pacific) allowed three runs on eight hits with three walks and
eight strikeouts in a complete-game win over Willamette; Matt
Jungmann (Whitman, RHP) had a no-decision, allowing one run on six
hits in 6.2 innings at Linfield; Joe DiPietro (PLU) threw two
innings of hitless relief in Saturday's win.
April 4
NWC Hitter of the Week: J.J. Stolsig (Linfield,
Jr., C, Lebanon, Ore.) batted .625 (10/16) in four games last week.
He drove in five runs and scored five times, leading the Wildcats
to three wins.
Honorable Mention: Kyle Henderson (Whitworth, OF) went 7/13 with
two home runs, four RBI and five runs scored in three wins; Tyler
Stevenson (PLU, IF) went 6/11 with three doubles, five RBI and five
runs in two wins; Stephen Donohue (George Fox, OF) hit .462 (6/13)
with a double, three runs scored and two RBI; Andrew Shultz
(Whitman) was 11/22 in five games with five doubles, five RBI and
four runs scored; Andy Meade (L&C, IF) was 4/10 with three RBI
in three games; Robby Williams (Pacific, OF) went 5/11 with one RBI
in three games.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Scott Hyde (George
Fox, Jr., RHP, Grants Pass, Ore.) struck out 14 batters while
throwing the third no-hitter in Bruin history. He faced the minimum
27 batters and the only player to reach base was hit by a
pitch.
Honorable Mention: Brant Shilliam (Linfield, RHP) threw a
complete-game three-hitter at Willamette, allowing one run while
striking out nine and walking none; Dan Lundeberg (Whitworth, LHP)
allowed one run on five hits in six innings of a win at Whitman,
striking out seven and walking one; Aaron Fulmer (PLU) worked five
innings of a win at L&C, allowing one run on three hits with
five walks and three strike outs.
March 28
NWC Hitter of the Week: Dane Woldseth
(Willamette, Jr., IF, Issaquah, Wash.) led the Bearcats to a 4-0
week by hitting .625 (10/16) with a double, eight runs batted in,
five runs scored and a stolen base.
Honorable Mention: Casey Thomas (Whitworth, IF) batted .583 (7/12)
with three doubles, four runs scored and an RBI in three losses;
David Petterson (George Fox, SS) hit .500 (8/16) with two doubles,
two RBI and two runs scored in four games; David Fox (PLU, C) went
4/10 with two doubles, three RBI and a run in three games; Mac
Gebbers (UPS, OF) was 6/12 with a double, three RBI and a run
scored; Sean Kinney (Whitman, OF) went 5/9 with three runs scored
and two stolen bases in two losses; Kyle Shimizu (Pacific, 3B/C)
went 7/15 with a double and three RBI in four games; Alex Justus
(Linfield, 1B) was 3/7 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored
in four games; Keala Fujimori (L&C, OF) went 6/14 with a double
and three RBI in three games.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jordon Rasmussen
(Linfield, So., RHP, Tigard, Ore.) threw a five-hit, complete-game
6-0 shutout against George Fox. He struck out eight batters and
walked five.
Honorable Mention: Scott Hicks (Pacific) defeated L&C 6-1 with
a complete-game effort, allowing one run on six hits and no walks,
striking out three; Taylor Thompson (UPS) allowed one run on seven
hits and three walks in seven innings of a 2-1 win at PLU; Steve
Johnson (Whitman, RHP) went six innings, allowing two runs on four
hits and a walk while striking out three in a no decision; Matt
Serr (PLU) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk
with three strikeouts in a win over UPS.
March 21
NWC Hitter of the Week: Jason Miller (PLU, Jr.,
IF, Burlington, Wash.) sparked the Lutes to three wins in four
games in California with eight hits in 13 at-bats (.615). He had
two triples and a double, driving in three runs and scoring
eight.
Honorable Mention: C.R. Braniff (George Fox, 2B) went 9/18 with two
doubles, eight RBI and 11 runs scored in four games; Sean Kinney
(Whitman, OF) went 8/13 with five RBI and three runs scored in
three games; Josh Taylor (Whitworth, OF) hit .545 (6/11) with a
home run and three doubles, driving in seven runs and scoring five;
Olin Wick (UPS, C) was 6/14 with a home run, a double, four RBI and
four runs scored in four games.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Scott Hyde (George
Fox, Jr., RHP, Grants Pass, Ore.) allowed no runs on two hits in
seven innings of a 20-4 win over Whitworth, striking out 15 and
walking none to improve to 6-0.
Honorable Mention: Dan Lundeberg (Whitworth, LHP) allowed four runs
(two earned) on five hits in seven innings of a win at GFU,
striking out two and walking three; Matt Serr (PLU, RHP) defeated
Rutgers-Camden with seven innings of work, allowing four runs on 10
hits with two strikeouts and no walks; Matt Jungmann (Whitman, RHP)
allowed four runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking
two, in seven innings at Willamette.
March 14
NWC Hitter of the Week: David Moore (Linfield,
Jr., 3B, Yakima, Wash.) led the Wildcats to a 4-0 week, hitting
.562 (9/16) with a double and two home runs. He drove in ten and
scored nine times.
Honorable Mention: Matthew McCord (Pacific, 1B) went 8/18 with two
home runs (including a grand slam), with seven RBI and three runs
scored in five games; Tye Tinner (George Fox, 3B) was 7/10 with a
double, home run, five runs scored and three RBI in a sweep at
Whitman; Kyle Henderson (Whitworth, OF) went 5/11 with a double,
triple, home run, five RBI and two runs scored; Jared Simon (PLU,
IF) was 7/12 with four runs scored and an RBI; Andrew Bartels
(Willamette) went 4/9 with two doubles and three RBI; Brandon
Nickerson (Whitman, SS) was 5/13 with two doubles, three runs
scored and two RBI; Olin Wick (UPS, C) went 5/12 with four runs
scored.
NWC Pitcher of the Week: Scott Hyde (George
Fox, Jr., RHP, Grants Pass, Ore.) threw a complete-game 3-0 shutout
at Whitman, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out 13
batters.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Jensen (Willamette) allowed no runs on five
hits in eight innings of a 4-0 win over Bethany; Cole Young
(Whitworth, RHP) allowed no runs on four hits in 6.1 innings of a
3-0 win over L&C; Brant Shilliam (Linfield, RHP) allowed one
run on one hit in seven innings of a 4-1 win over UPS, with six
walks and six strikeouts; John Quante (Pacific) earned a
seven-inning, complete-game win against Concordia, allowing one run
on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks; Aaron
Roetcisoender (PLU) went 2-1 in three relief appearances, allowing
no runs on three hits in 3.1 innings; Pat Thomas (Whitman, RHP)
allowed three runs on seven hits, while striking out four, in six
innings of the 3-0 loss to George Fox.
March 7
NWC Hitter of the Week: Aaron Svarthumle
(Pacific, Jr., OF, Fall City, Wash.) went 14/16 at the plate in
four games with seven runs batted in, seven runs scored, four
doubles, a home run and a stolen base.
Honorable Mention: Tyler Ochsner (PLU, DH) went 4/9 with two
doubles and five RBI; Sam Bunnett (UPS, 1B) was 7/11 with five runs
and one RBI in three wins; Dan Wentzell (George Fox, DH) hit 5/8
with a double, two RBI and a run scored in two wins; Korey Johnson
(L&C) batted 4/11 with six runs scored, six RBI and two stolen
bases in four games; Simon Pollack (Whitman) went 4/12 with a home
run, four RBI and three runs scored in three games; Jake Roberts

(L&C, Fr., RHP, Beaverton, Ore.) defeated Whitman 6-1, allowing
two hits and one run (unearned) in eight innings, while striking
out three batters and walking four.
Honorable Mention: Alex Justus (Linfield, LHP) did not allow a run
on one hit in seven innings of a win at PLU; Cory Dixon (George
Fox, LHP) shutout Willamette over eight innings of an 8-0 win,
allowing seven hits while striking out five; Aaron Fulmer (PLU)
beat Linfield 4-2, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) in
eight innings; Scott Hicks (Pacific) beat L&C 12-2, allowing
one run on three hits in seven innings; Pat Thomas (Whitman)
allowed eight hits and six runs (three earned) in eight innings of
a loss at L&C.
