2008 NWC Student-Athletes of the Week

April 28

NWC Player of the Week: Geoff Gabler (PLU, Jr., OF, Centralia, Wash. - Centralia) batted .588 (10 for 17) with three doubles and two home runs in four weekend games. He drove in five runs and scored nine times, and also had a pair of stolen bases in two attempts.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Pete Stadmeyer (Whitman, Jr., RHP, Silverton, Ore. - Silverton) tossed a seven-inning complete game four hitter in Sunday's 3-1 win over Whitman. He allowed four singles, with two strikeouts and only one walk.

NWC Player of the Week: Drew Van Cleave (Linfield, Sr., C, Pendleton, Ore. - Pendleton) batted .714 (10 for 14) with a double, a triple and a home run. He drove in 10 runs and scored nine in the Wildcats' sweep at Willamette.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jordan Smiley (L&C, Sr., RHP, Las Vegas, Nev. - Centennial) threw a seven-inning, complete game twohitter in the Pioneers' 3-0 win over Pacific on Sunday. He struck out six batters and walked only one.

NWC Player of the Week: Sean Anderson (Willamette, Sr., OF, Klamath Falls, Ore. - Klamath Union) batted .550 (11 for 20) with two home runs and two doubles. He drove in 10 runs and scored 8 to lead the Bearcats to three wins in four games at UPS.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Tucker Laurence (L&C, Fr., RHP, San Martin, Calif. - Gunn) handed NWC-leading Linfield its first shutout of the season, going all seven innings of Sunday's 4-0 win. He allowed seven hits and two walks, while striking out four batters.

NWC Player of the Week: Ty Stanley (Linfield, Sr., 1B, Vancouver, Wash. - Columbia River) led the Wildcats to a sweep at Pacific by hitting .471 (8 for 19) with eight runs batted in and seven runs scored. He had a double, a triple and a home run.

NWC Player of the Week: Zach Gantenbein (Pacific, Sr., IF, Warrenton, Ore. - Warrenton) extended his hitting streak to 13 games by batting .363 (9 for 16) in the sweep at UPS. He drove in 7 runs and scored five.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Blaine Knuth (Pacific, Jr., Salem, Ore. - North Salem) threw a complete-game, three-hit shoutout on Saturday at UPS, striking out nine and walking two. He did not allow a runner past second base.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Brian Clark (Linfield, Sr., RHP, Bellevue, Wash. - Sammamish) pitched a complete-game, one-hitter (nine innings) at Whitman, striking out five and walking two in the 5-0 Wildcat victory.

NWC Player of the Week: Matt Hendryx (Pacific, Sr., C, Seaside, Ore. - Seaside) hit .500 (8 for 16) with three home runs. He drive in ten runners and scored four times in five games, helping the Boxers take three of four from defending champion PLU.

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Reese McCulley (Linfield, So., RHP, Salem, Ore. - Sprague) went the first 7 innings in a 4-0 win over Whitworth, allowing six hits while striking out six and walking two batters.

March 3

NWC Player of the Week: Kyle Stalker (Willamette, Jr., 1B, Bellevue, Wash. - Sammamish) batted .467 (7 for 15) in five games with every base hit going for a home run. He drove in 16 runs and scored 11 times (10 walks).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Dusty Kauflin (UPS, So., Boulder, Colo. - Boulder) tossed a complete-game, two-hitter in the 20-1 win over Whitworth, allowing one run while striking out eight and walking two batters.

Feb. 25

NWC Player of the Week: NWC Player of the Week: Michael Olsen (UPS, Sr., OF, Niwot, Colo. - Niwot) had two home runs, a double and four runs batted in for the Loggers, all against Concordia. The big game earned him six walks the over the next two contest. He scored seven runs in three games.
Honorable Mention: David Bachofner (Linfield, Sr., SS); Pat Bailey (George Fox, Jr., 3B); Jeff Johnston (Pacific, Sr., CF); David Tufo (Willamette, Jr., 3B).
