Max Beatty allowed just five hits and recorded 12 strikeouts in eight innings on Friday to lead Pacific Lutheran to a 3-0 victory over nationally ranked Concordia (Texas) in the Arizona Desert Classic at Desert Edge High School.

After going three up and three down through the first three innings, the George Fox University Bruins exploded for 17 hits over the next six innings and rallied to defeat the University of Texas-Dallas Comets 19-8 in the Arizona Desert Classic baseball tournament Friday here at the Boulder Creek High School field.
La Verne 21, Whitman 3
Later in the day, the Missionaries faced off against Western Region power La Verne who last year finished just two wins shy of a World Series appearance. Although the Whits lost 22 – 3, Buckham had another good offensive game, collecting two hits and scoring two runs and Cam Young hit his first homerun of the season, a no-doubter that cleared the fence easily.
Whitworth 5, California Lutheran 4
California Lutheran rallied with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tip visiting Whitworth 5-4 in the collegiate baseball season opener for both schools on Friday afternoon.
Hendrix (Ark.) 6, Willamette 3
Hendrix College (Ark.) scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally from a 3-1 deficit on its way to a 6-3 win over Willamette University in the season opener for both teams, Friday, Feb. 8 at The Ballfields at Craig Ranch. The Warriors outhit the Bearcats 8-2, as pitchers Jacob Perschke and Kyle Teachout combined for the win.
Pomona-Pitzer 2, Pacific (Ore.) 1 (Suspended - Bottom 7)
Pacific's 2012 baseball season opener will be a two-day affair after rain caused their game against Pomona-Pitzer to be suspended in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
