Northwest Conference Runners of the WeekOct. 6Women’s Cross Country – Maddie Coffman (Willamette, Sr. Boise, Idaho/Boise) won the women’s Cardinal 5K Race in a personal-best 17:37.53 at the Charles Bowles Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4. She took 12.72 seconds off her previous top 5K run. Coffman helped the Bearcats finish 5th in the team standings. Men’s Cross Country – Nick Gallagher (Whitworth, So. Bedford, Iowa/Bedford) was the second NCAA DIII runner to cross the line at the Willamette Invitational in a race that featured over 300 student-athletes. Sept. 29Women’s Cross Country – Marci Klimek (Linfield, Sr. Phoenix, Ore./Phoenix) won the Linfield Invite, 1:39 ahead of the second place finisher. She also set a new course record at Joe Dancer Park. Men’s Cross Country – Shawn Fisher (Linfield, Jr. Boring, Ore./Barlow) won the Linfield Invite, 1:05 ahead of the second place finisher and setting a new course record at Joe Dancer Park. Sept. 22Women’s Cross Country – Maddie Coffman (Willamette, Sr. Boise, Idaho/Boise) won the women’s individual title at the Willamette Grass Course Meet. She completed the 5-kilometer run in 18:04.00 to win by 17.07 seconds. She helped Willamette finish second in the team standings. Men’s Cross Country – Leo Castillo (Willamette, Fr. Parkdale, Ore./Hood River Valley) in his first collegiate race, took second place at the Willamette Grass Course Meet on Saturday, Sept. 20. He was the top NCAA Division III finisher in the men’s race at 22:46.06 and was just 9.56 seconds behind the winner, Chris Reed of Western Oregon. Castillo led a 2-4-5-8-11 finish for the Bearcats (30 points), who won the men’s team title by nine points over Western Oregon. Sept. 15Women’s Cross Country – Marci Klimek (Linfield, Jr. Phoenix, Ore./Phoenix) continued her fine start to the 2008 season, winning her third consecutive competition, this time by the Men’s Cross Country - Shawn Fisher (Linfield, Jr. Boring, Ore./Barlow) finished tenth with a Sept. 8Women’s Cross Country – Marci Klimek (Linfield, Jr. Phoenix, Ore./Phoenix) her second straight race to open the 2008 season with a time of 14:30.49.. Men’s Cross Country - Nick Gallagher (Whitworth, So. Bedford, Iowa/Bedford) led Whitworth to the team championship at the Whitman Invitational, posting the best finish of any Northwest Conference runner. Whitworth defeated NAIA #12 Lewis-Clark State. |
