Northwest Conference Football Players of the Week

Nov. 16

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Aaron Binger (PLU, Sr., RB, North Bend, Wash.) ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. He also caught four passes for 87 yards and three other touchdowns in the win over UPS.
Honorable Mention: Tyler Matthews (Linfield, QB) completed 19 of 36 passes for 318 yards and three touchdowns without an interception; Greg Reed (Willamette, Fl) rushed 20 times for 171 yards and one touchdown; Billy Condon (Whitworth, RB) ran 23 times for 150 yards and three touchdowns.

Co-NWC Defensive Players of the Week: Casey Carlson (PLU, Sr., LB, Woodinville, Wash.) made nine tackles, including two sacks for 10 yards, forced two fumbles and recovered another; O.J. Gulley (Linfield, Jr., CB, Portland, Ore.) made two interceptions inside Linfield territory, broke up two other passes and added five solo tackles.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Riddell (Whitworth, SS) made a game-high 13 tackles, including one for loss, and broke up a pass on an L&C 4th down.

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: James Wilson (Linfield, Jr., P, Springfield, Ore.) averaged 42.8 yards on five punts, including three downed inside Willamette's 20-yard line.
Honorable Mention: Dwayne Tawney (Whitworth, WR) returned four punts for 38 yards and one kickoff for 45 yards.

Nov. 9

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Aaron Binger (PLU, Sr., RB, North Bend, Wash.) ran for 191 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries and caught three passes for 88 yards and two more scores in the win over Menlo.
Honorable Mention: Andy Carlson (UPS, QB) rushed 31 times for 203 yards and four scores, while completing one of seven passes for eight yards with two interceptions; Thomas Ford (Linfield, RB) ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries; Calvin Keyser-Allen (Willamette, RB) carried nine times for 103 yards and a touchdown; Billy Condon (Whitworth, RB) ran for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Casey Carlson (PLU, Sr., LB, Woodinville, Wash.) made seven tackles, including a two-yard sack, while forcing one fumble and recovering another fumble.
Honorable Mention: Tim Mensonides (UPS, DL) totaled five tackles, including three sacks for 17 yards; Harrison Bertsch (Linfield, LB) led the Wildcats with 11 tackles; Jeff Riddell (Whitworth, FS) had eight tackles, including one for loss, and a pass interception.

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: James Wilson (Linfield, Jr., P, Springfield, Ore.) averaged 45.2 yards on four punts, including a 71-yard effort that was downed at the one yard line.
Honorable Mention: Dave Weller (PLU, P/K) punted five times for a 43-yard average and made all four of his PAT attempts.

Nov. 2

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Greg Reed (Willamette, Sr., Fl, Suisun City, Calif.) ran for 183 yards on 17 carries (10.8 yards per carry), scoring three touchdowns, including a 73-yard effort.
Honorable Mention: Blake Kruse (Linfield, QB) completed 18 of 29 passes for 259 yards and five touchdowns without an interception; Andy Carlson (UPS, QB) carried 24 times for 201 yards and three touchdowns, while completing 5/13 passes for 85 yards with two interceptions; Dusty Macauley (PLU, QB) ran nine times for 30 yards and three touchdowns, while completing 26 of 41 passes for 242 yards with two interceptions; Billy Condon (Whitworth, RB) ran 21 times for 135 yards and one touchdown.

NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Tony Zimmer (Linfield, Sr., Rov., San Jose, Calif.) made two interceptions, one he returned 35 yards for a touchdown and another in the endzone to prevent an L&C score, and added seven tackles.
Honorable Mention: Daniel Jones (Whitworth, DE) returned an interception two yards for a score, and finished with ten tackles, including a nine-yard sack.

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: Garrett Wales (Linfield, So., PK, Bend, Ore.) made seven of eight PAT attempts.
Honorable Mention: No other nominees.

Oct. 26

Co-NWC Offensive Players of the Week: Aaron Binger (PLU, Sr., RB, North Bend, Wash.) carried nine times for 95 yards and scored three touchdowns; Thomas Ford (Linfield, RB) carried 27 times for 148 yards and scored twice.
Honorable Mention: Chris Jameson (L&C, WR) caught nine passes for 143 yards and a touchdown; Billy Condon (Whitworth, RB) ran 33 times for 101 yards and one score.

NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Jonathan Hook (Whitworth, Jr., LB, Spokane, Wash.) finished with 11 tackles (five solos), including two for loss. He forced a fumble, recovered a blocked punt and intercepted Puget Sound's final pass.
Honorable Mention: Harrison Bertsch (Linfield, LB) intercepted two passes and had eight tackles (one solo); Casey Carlson (PLU, LB) totaled six solo tackles, including two sacks (22 yards) and forced a fumble; Marc Larson (UPS, DB) led the Loggers with 17 tackles (13 solo).

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: James Wilson (Linfield, Jr., P, Springfield, Ore.) averaged 50.4 yards on five punts, including a 74-yard effort.
Honorable Mention: Cameron Collings (Whitworth, K/P) made two of three field goal attempts and averaged 32.3 yards on three punts.

Oct. 19

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Tyler Matthews (Linfield, Sr., QB, Ellensburg, Wash.) completed 20 of 25 passes for 399 yards and five touchdowns (without an interception) in less then three quarters of play.
Honorable Mention: Greg Reed (Willamette, Fl) carried 14 times for 172 yards and one touchdown; Aaron Binger (PLU, RB) carried 17 times for 105 yards and caught two passes for 12 yards while scoring twice; Joel Clark (Whitworth, QB) completed 20 of 26 passes for 253 yards with one TD and two interceptions; Andy Carlson (UPS, QB) ran for 128 yards and a TD while throwing for 65 yards. Defensive Player of the Week: Peter Sarenson (PLU, Sr., DB, Gig Harbor, Wash.) had seven tackles and two pass break-ups, including the game-saving interception on the PLU 12 yard line with 12 seconds left.
Honorable Mention: Jeremy Scott (Linfield, DL) had five tackles, including a nine-yard sack, forced a fumble and blocked a field goal; Mel Leary (Whitworth, LB) had 12 tackles, including two sacks (6 yards), and another for loss of two.

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: Garrett Wales (Linfield, So., PK, Bend, Ore.) scored 14 points vs. EOU, making 3/3 field goal attempts and five of six point after attempts.
Honorable Mention: Cameron Collings (Whitworth, K/P) kicked a 49-yard field goal, three extra points and averaged 47.5 yards on two punts, including a 70-yard effort; Scott Peterson (PLU, RB) set up a winning TD with a 34-yard kick off return.

Oct. 12

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: George Carter (Linfield, Jr., WR, Salem, Ore.) caught three passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another score.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Bogle (L&C, RB) carried 16 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns and caught four passes for 35 yards; Dusty Macauley (PLU, QB) completed 12 of 23 passes for 151 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and ran for another TD.

NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Casey Carlson (PLU, Sr., LB, Woodinville, Wash.) finished with 12 tackles, including three sacks for 20 yards, forced two fumbles and broke up a pass.
Honorable Mention: Nate Matlock (Willamette, DL) finished with four sacks for 20 yards; Chris Stokes (L&C) had 13 tackles, including three for loss; Ryan Boatsman (Linfield, LB) had five tackles, including a sack, and recovered a fumble.

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: Eric Hillison (Linfield, Sr., CB, Beaverton, Ore.) returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown at UPS.
Honorable Mention: Andy Hamilton (PLU, DB) recovered a fumbled punt in the endzone with 3:31 to play to clinch the win; Matt Welch (L&C, P) averaged 37.7 yards per punt on six attempts.

Oct. 5

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Trent Thompson (L&C, Sr., QB, Grants Pass, Ore.) completed 79% of his passes (35/44) for 400 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in the Pioneers' win over Colorado College.
Honorable Mention: Quentin Brock (Willamette, RB) carried 10 times for 96 yards and two touchdowns; Riley Jenkins (Linfield, RB) carried 17 times for 101 yards; Aaron Binger (PLU, RB) carried eight times for 65 yards and a TD and caught two passes for 17 yards.

NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Ryan Boatsman (Linfield, Sr., LB, Kelso, Wash.) had two interceptions (56 yards) in the Wildcats' win, with another pass deflection and one tackle.
Honorable Mention: Casey Carlson (PLU, LB) had ten tackles, including two sacks for 12 yards; Brad Boggs (L&C, DB) had one interception (29 yards).

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: James Wilson (Linfield, Jr., P, Springfield, Ore.) averaged 45.1 yards per punt (8 attempts).
Honorable Mention: Dave Weller (PLU, P/K) averaged 43.5 yards on four punts.

Sept. 28

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Nick Bodeman (L&C, So., WR, Portland, Ore.) caught seven passes for 196 yards and a touchdown in the Pioneers' win over UPS.
Honorable Mention: Jared Thomas (Whitworth, WR) caught 12 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown; Rory Lee (UPS, RB) carried 17 times for 95 yards in a loss.

NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Joe Decker (L&C, So., LB, Emmett, Idaho) led the Pioneers with 19 tackles (five solo, 14 assists) and forced a fumble.
Honorable Mention: Aaron Sedler (Whitworth, LB) had 15 tackles in a loss.

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: Matt Welch (L&C, Fr., P/K, Burbank, Calif.) averaged 51 yards on five punts, twice pinning UPS inside the five-yard line, and was 1-2 on field goals, including the game-winning 23-yarder with 25 seconds to play.
Honorable Mention: Dwayne Tawney (Whitworth, WR) averaged 31 yards on four kick off returns, including a 71-yarder.

Sept. 21

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: George Carter (Linfield, Jr., WR, Salem, Ore.) caught 12 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns, including the game winner at SOU with 1:28 to play.
Honorable Mention: Trent Thompson (L&C, QB) completed 21 of 41 passes for 321 yards and four TDs and also rushed for 75 yards in the Pios' loss; Bill Condon (Whitworth, RB) carried 28 times for 129 yards; Dusty Macauley (PLU, QB) was 11 for 21 for 173 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Ty Smith (Linfield, Jr., DB, Dallas, Ore.) had nine tackles and two interceptions, including one to preserve the win over SOU with 24 seconds to play.
Honorable Mention: Chris Stokes (L&C, LB) had 15 tackles (eight solo), including one for loss; Mel Leary (Whitworth, LB) led the Pirates with 10 tackles; Justin Wojciechowski (PLU, LB) led the Lutes with six tackles (five solo).

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: Dave Weller (PLU, Sr., PK, North Bend, Wash.) made all three PAT attempts, kicked a 29-yard field goal and punted three times for a 44.7 yard average in the win over Chapman.
Honorable Mention: Eric Hillison (Linfield, KR) returned six kickoffs for a school record 190 yards, including a 66 yarder; .Jon Hook (Whitworth, LB) ran a fake punt 53 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half vs. Menlo;

Sept. 14

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Tyler Matthews (Linfield, Sr., QB, Ellensburg, Wash.) passed for a Wildcat record 452 yards, completing 23 of 37 passes with five touchdowns and no interceptions.
Honorable Mention: Nick Kaiel (L&C, RB) carried ten times for 174 yards and a touchdown; Mark McCall (PLU, WR) caught five passes for 91 yards and a TD; Bill Condon (Whitworth, RB) ran 31 times for 91 yards.

NWC Co-Defensive Players of the Week: Jeremy Scroggins (Whitworth, Jr., SS, Royal City, Wash.) led the Pirates with 10 tackles while holding Montana Tech to three points; Travis Eby (PLU, Sr., LB, Kirkland, Wash.) had seven tackles, including one for loss of one yard, and forced a fumble.

NWC Special Teams Player of the Week: James Wilson (Linfield, Jr., P, Springfield, Ore.) averaged 53.5 yards on two punts, including one that was downed at the Redlands one-yard line.
Honorable Mention: Dave Weller (PLU, P/K) averaged 40.6 yards on five punts; Cam Collings (Whitworth, P/K) averaged 38.2 yards per punt and made 2/3 PATs.
