2007 NWC Football Student-Athletes of the Week

Nov. 12

Offensive Player of the Week: Kory Kemp (Whitworth, Jr., QB, Redmond, Wash. - Eastlake) completed 16 of 23 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns in two and a half quarters of play. He did not throw an interception.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Whitcomb (Willamette, So., QB); Craig Chiado (PLU, Sr., WR).

Defensive Player of the Week: Robert Thomsen (PLU, Sr., DE, Olympia, Wash. - Timberline) had nine tackles against Willamette, five of which went for losses totaling 13 yards.
Honorable Mention: Cory Lowe (Willamette, So., DE); Ryan Marshall (Whitworth, Sr., DB).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Clinton Moran (Willamette, Sr., P, Mission Viejo, Calif. - Capistrano Valley) punted eight times for 316 yards (39.5 average), three of which went inside the 20 yard line.

Nov. 5

Offensive Player of the Week: Shaun Souza (Menlo, So., RB, San Jose, Calif. - Pioneer) set a school record with five touchdowns, running for four (58 yards, 15 carries) and catching one (5 receptions, 30 yards) in a win over UPS.
Honorable Mention: Skylar Swinford (Willamette, Sr., RB); James Connelly (L&C, Jr., WR); Chris Ahsing (Whitworth, Sr., RB).

Defensive Player of the Week: Phil Entel (Sr., FS, Clarkston, Wash. - Univ. of Idaho) intercepted three passes, including one he returned 32 yards for the game's only score, and had five tackles in the win over Linfield.
Honorable Mention: Kael Johnson (Menlo, Jr., LB); Taylor Hermes (Willamette, Sr., LB).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Matt Bicocca (Willamette, Sr., PK, San Andreas, Calif. - Calaveras) set a school record by making 11 of 11 PAT attempts to give him 27 of 27 this season.
Honorable Mention: Kainona Lemke (Menlo, Fr., K/P)

Oct. 29

Offensive Player of the Week: Travis Masters (Linfield, Jr., RB, Elk Grove, Calif. - Elk Grove) accounted for 140 all purpose yards, including 103 yards rushing, in the Wildcats' win at Menlo.
Honorable Mention: Adam Anderson (Whitworth, So., RB); C.J. Washington (Willamette, Sr., RB).

Defensive Player of the Week: Jay Tully (Whitworth, Sr., SS, Spokane, Wash. - Mead) finished with a game-high 18 tackles, including one for loss of 2 yards, to help Whitworth limit Willamette to 274 total yards.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Ebel (PLU, Sr., DB); Curtis Berry (Menlo, Jr., DB); Grant Piros (Willamette, Jr., FS); Drew Ragan (Linfield, Sr., LB).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Andy Largent (Whitworth, So., WR/PK, Spokane, Wash. - WSU/Shadle Park) kicked two field goals, including the game-winning 33 yarder on the final play, and made both PAT attempts.
Honorable Mention: Matt Wolford (PLU, Jr., DB/PR).

Oct. 22

Offensive Player of the Week: Silas Paul (UPS, Sr., RB, Portland, Ore. - Lincoln) carried the ball 13 times for 171 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 13.2 yards per carry and a touchdown every 2.6 runs in the win at L&C.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Whitcomb (Willamette, So., QB); Adam Anderson (Whitworth, So., RB); Joevante Mayes (L&C, Fr., RB); Travis Masters (Linfield, Jr., RB).

Defensive Player of the Week: Jaymin Jackson (Linfield, So., LB, Vancouver, Wash. - Columbia River) finished with six tackles, including 1.5 for losses of 11 yards, and forced and recovered a fumble in the shutout win over PLU.
Honorable Mention: Robert Thomsen (PLU, Sr., DE); Taylor Hermes (Willamette, Sr., LB); Cory Haywood (UPS, So., DB); Korey Gray (Menlo, Sr., LB).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Clint Moran (Willamette, Sr., P, Mission Viejo, Calif. - Capistrano Valley) punted three times for a 36.7 average and put two kicks inside the 20, and also passed for a two-point conversion at Menlo.
Honorable Mention: Scott Birkhofer (Linfield, Jr., PK).

Oct. 15

Offensive Player of the Week: Brett Gordon (PLU, Sr., QB, Yakima, Wash. - Eisenhower) completed 10 of 17 passes for 215 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. His TD passes covered 28, 3, 50 and 8 yards.
Honorable Mention: Milton Nelson (Whitworth, So., RB); Spencer Crace (UPS, So., QB); C.J. Washington (Willamette, Sr., RB); Dino Arancibia (Menlo, Jr., WR).

Defensive Player of the Week: Tyler Vlasak (UPS, Fr., LB, Tacoma, Wash. - Sumner) had 17 tackles, including a sack and another for loss, to lead the Loggers to the comeback win over Willamette.
Honorable Mention: Neal Chalmers (PLU, Jr., LB); Brian Mehl (Linfield, Sr., DB); Greg Caster (Whitworth, Sr., LB); Taylor Hermes (Willamette, Sr., LB).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Matt Wolford (PLU, Jr., DB, Parkland, Wash. - Franklin Pierce) returned four punts for an average of 13.25 yards and had a 21 yard kick off return.
Honorable Mention: Jose Green (Willamette, Fr., RB/PR).

Oct. 8

Offensive Player of the Week: Shaun Souza (Menlo, So., RB, San Jose, Calif. - Pioneer) sparked the Oaks' first win of the season with 132 yards rushing on only 11 carries. He had TD runs of five and 12 yards.
Honorable Mention: Travis Masters (Linfield, Jr., RB); Adam Anderson (Whitworth, So., RB).

Defensive Player of the Week: Brian Mehl (Linfield, Sr., M, Eugene, Ore. - Churchill) led the Wildcats' shutout of UPS with 11 tackles, a four yard sack and an interception.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Marshall (Whitworth, Sr., CB); Robert Thomsen (PLU, Sr., DL).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Scott Birkhofer (Linfield, Jr., PK, Boring, Ore. - Portland, Christian) broke his own school record with a 53 yard field goal and made four of five PAT attempts.
Honorable Mention: Zack Clow (Whitworth, Fr., P).

Oct. 1

Offensive Player of the Week: Chase Reed (PLU, Sr., WR, Orting, Wash. - Orting) scored four touchdowns to lead the Lutes past UPS. He ran for 39 yards and three scores, and caught three passes for 91 yards and another touchdown.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Whitcomb (Willamette, So., QB); Adam Anderson (Whitworth, So., RB); Joevonte Mayes (L&C, Fr., RB).

Defensive Player of the Week: Andrew Eisentrout (PLU, Sr., DE, Olympia, Wash. - Olympia) was in on four tackles for loss, including 2.5 sacks for -14 yards, and forced a fumble. He finished with a total of six tackles.
Honorable Mention: Keone Tawata (Linfield, Sr., DB); Marc Grow (Whitworth, Sr., LB); Taylor Hermes (Willamette, Sr., LB).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Matt Bicocca (Willamette, Sr., PK, San Andreas, Calif. - Calaveras) kicked a game-winning 42 yard field goal with four seconds to play and added a 25 yard field goal. He was 3 for 3 on PATs.
Honorable Mention: Zack Clow (Whitworth, Fr., P); Joevante Mayes (L&C, Fr., RB).

Sept. 24

Offensive Player of the Week: Adam Anderson (Whitworth, So., RB, Elk, Wash. - Univ. of Idaho) ran for 94 of his 114 yards in the second half to lead the Pirates back from a 14-3 deficit. His 66 yard TD run gave the Bucs their first lead.
Honorable Mention: Craig Chiado (PLU, Sr., WR); Spencer Crace (UPS, So., QB); C.J. Washington (Willamette, Sr., RB); Angel Molina (Menlo, Fr., QB).

Defensive Player of the Week: Greg Caster (Whitworth, Sr., LB, Sherwood, Ore. - Sherwood) totaled 17 tackles, including 2.5 for losses of seven yards, against a Stout offensive line that averaged 302 pounds.
Honorable Mention: Marcus Ford (Willamette, Jr., DE); Andy Holden (PLU, Jr., DL).

Special Teams Player of the Week: James Yamashita (Willamette, Jr., WR/KR, Walnut Creek, Calif. - Diablo Valley Coll.) returned two kickoffs for 109, including a second-quarter 89 yard touchdown that pulled the Bearcats within 20-14.
Honorable Mention: Doug Rickabaugh (PLU, Jr., P).

Sept. 17

Offensive Player of the Week: Trevor Scharer (Linfield, Sr., QB, Salem, Ore. - McKay) set a school record with 555 yards of total offense. He completed 32 of 45 passes for 511 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions.
Honorable Mention: Brett Gordon (PLU, Sr., QB); Silas Paul (UPS, Jr., RB); C.J. Washington (Willamette, Sr., RB); Adam Anderson (Whitworth, So., RB).

Defensive Player of the Week: Marc Grow (Whitworth, Sr., LB, Warden, Wash. - Warden) was in on six tackles. He returned a fumble ten yards for a touchdown, intercepted a pass at his own goal line and was part of a 10-yard sack.
Honorable Mention: Chad Blau (PLU, Sr., LB); Brian Mehl (Linfield, Sr., DB); Demitri Huffman (UPS, Jr., S); Cory Lowe (Willamette, So., DE).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Scott Birkhofer (Linfield, Jr., PK, Boring, Ore.) made field goals of 46 and 51 yards, the latter setting a school record for distance, and three of four PAT attempts.

Sept. 10

Offensive Player of the Week: Brett Gordon (PLU, Sr., QB, Yakima, Wash. - Eisenhower) completed 22 of 36 passes for 249 yards with one interception and two touchdowns. He also ran for 28 yards, including a 21-yard score.
Honorable Mention: James Olcott (UPS, Sr., RB); Grant Leslie (Willamette, Jr., QB).

Defensive Player of the Week: Robert Thomsen (PLU, Sr., DE, Olympia, Wash. - Timberline) had nine tackles, including 3.5 for losses of 12 yards. He recovered two fumbles in the Lutes' win at CLU.
Honorable Mention: Andrew Bean (Linfield, Sr., Rov.); David Mensonides (UPS, Sr., DL); Bronson Farr (Menlo, So., DL); Layton Brown (Whitworth, Fr., LB); Kevin Takeno (L&C, Jr., LB); Taylor Hermes (Willamette, Sr., LB).

Special Teams Player of the Week: Stan Fisher (Linfield, Sr., P, Kailua, Hawaii - Punahou) punted four times for an average of 46.2 yards, including one that was downed at the six.
Honorable Mention: Brian Ames (UPS, Sr., P); Clinton Moran (Willamette, Sr., P)
