Linfield 31, Pacific Lutheran 24
John Shaffer slipped away from a couple of tacklers,
reversed field and raced 32 yards for the winning touchdown with
about seven minutes left as No. 3-ranked Linfield held off Pacific
Lutheran, 31-24, on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Sparks
Stadium.
Whitworth 28, Pacific 25
A pair of second half rallies came up just short for
Pacific Saturday as the Boxers fell to Whitworth in both team's
Northwest Conference football opener, 28-25, at Lincoln Park
Stadium.
Lewis & Clark 55, Puget Sound 42
A wild fourth quarter set up an exciting finish but the
Puget Sound football team fell just short of a comeback in a 55-42
loss to Lewis & Clark. The Loggers (0-4, 0-1 NWC) were down 19
points with 6:39 left in the game but were able to cut the lead to
just six before the Pios (4-0, 1-0 NWC) were able to put the game
away.
Willamette 28, Sewanee 24
Willamette University rallied from a 24-14 deficit in the
third quarter to defeat Sewanee: University of the South, 28-24, on
Saturday, Sept. 29.
