Northwest Conference Golf Student-Athletes of the Week

April 20

Women - Valerie Kitamori (Pacific, So. Hilo, Hawaii/Waiakea) won the Boxer Invitational with a five over par 77. Kitamori beat out 17 other golfers in the one day event.

Honorable Mention - Natalie Nakamine (Puget Sound, So. Pearl City, Hawaii), Brianna Nap (George Fox, So. Deer Park, Wash.)

Men - Ryan Young (Whitworth, So. Mill Creek, Wash./Jackson) won his second tournament of the year, leading the Pirates to a team win at the NWC North Tournament.  He was two shots over par in a field of 23 golfers.

Honorable Mention - Tim Bartz (Puget Sound, Jr. University Place, Wash.)

April 13

Men - Kevin Duerr (Linfield, Sr. Durham, Calif./Chico) earned medalist honors at the George Fox Invitational with a round of 70, leading Linfield to a first-place team finish.

April 6

Women - Whitney Ueno (Willamette, Sr. Hilo, Hawaii/Hilo) won the NWC Spring Classic individual title with a score of 171 (84-87). She trailed by one stroke after the first day, but rallied to finish in first place by five strokes. Ueno won the NWC Fall Classic last semester and was the winner of the NWC Spring Classic in 2008.

Honorable Mention - Brynn Hurdus (Linfield, So. Gig Harbor, Wash.), Natalie Nakamine (Puget Sound, So. Pearl City, Hawaii), Brianna Nap (George Fox, So. Deer Park, Wash.), Valerie Kitamori (Paicifc, So. Hilo, Hawaii).

Men- Max Bonk (Pacific, So. Kamuela, Hawaii/Hawaii Prep) won the NWC Spring Classic for the second straight year with a two round total of 147, and won his fifth tournament in a row. His round of 65 is an unofficial Chambers Bay GC record from the sand tees (awaiting verification).

Honorable Mention - Alex Fitch (Linfield, Fr. Redmond, Ore.), Brian Barton (Whitman, So. Pasco, Wash.), Ben Bryant (Willamette, Sr. Albany, Ore.), Jordan Hodge (Puget Sound, Jr. Tucson, Ariz.).

 

March 30

Women- Mandy Cameron (George Fox, So. Redmond, Ore./Redmond) finished 10th in a field of 33 at the UCSC Spring Invitational. Cameron posted a two day total of 185 on the toughest course the Bruins have seen this year. Her scores helped George Fox finish 2nd out of six teams.

March 23

Men- Max Bonk (Pacific, So., Kamuela, Hawaii - Hawaii Prep) earned medalist honors at the Willamette Invitational with a two-round score of 146 (+2). He defeated a field of 42 to earn his fourth consecutive individual title of the spring.

Honorable Mention - Ben Bryant (Willamette, Sr., Albany, Ore. - West Albany).

Women - Brianna Nap (George Fox, So., Deer Park, Wash. - Deer Park) tied for first place at the GFU Women's Spring Break Invitational in Peoria, Arizona with a two-day score of 154. She helped the Bruins shoot their best-ever two-day score of 658 to finish second by two strokes to nationally-ranked St. Lawrence.

 

March 16

Women - Natalie Nakamine (Puget Sound, So. Pearl City, Hawaii/Roosevelt) helped the Loggers win the rain-shortened Pacific Invitational with a round of 88. She was the individual winner as well, beating out 37 other golfers.

Honorable Mention - Mandy Cameron (George Fox, So. Redmond, Ore.)

March 9

Women - Natalie Nakamine (Puget Sound, So. Pearl City, Hawaii/Roosevelt) won the Logger Open this weekend with a two round total of 166 (+16). Her round of +2 77 helped to put her ahead of the field by seven shots.

Honorable Mention -Whitney Ueno (Willamette, Sr. Hilo, Hawaii), Karina Shelton (Pacific Lutheran, Fr. Tacoma, Wash.).

Men - Max Bonk (Pacific, So. Kamuela, Hawaii/Hawaii Prep) posted a round of 65 at the George Fox Invitational, the lowest of Bonk's college career and was just three strokes off of the Trysting Tree Golf Course's record for rounds from the blue tees. He won the 23-man one day tournament.

Honorable Mention - Tyler Nelson (Linfield, Jr. Spokane, Wash.), Jason Casey (Pacific Lutheran, Sr. University Place, Wash.), Shane Adversalo (Willamette, Jr. Honolulu, Hawaii), Mike Ulstad (George Fox, Fr. Corvallis, Ore.).

March 2

Women - Whitney Ueno (Willamette, Sr. Hilo, Hawaii/Hilo) shot a 79 in rain and light winds to win the individual title by five strokes at the Lewis & Clark Invitational on Sunday, March 1. In a field of 23, Ueno shot a 39 over the front nine (low score for nine holes during the tournament) and 40 on the back nine.

Honorable Mention - Sophie Corr, Fr. Tualatin, Ore.), Valerie Kitamori (Pacific, So. Hilo, Hawaii).

Men - Andrew Fitch (Linfield, Sr. Redmond, Ore./Redmond) and the Wildcats competed at the prestigious Wynlakes Wynternational, which featured No. 1 ranked Huntingdon College and other top Division III programs. Fitch finished tied for eighth place in a field of 50, with rounds of 78-74, and helped to lead Linfield to a fifth place team finish.
