2001-02 Northwest Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Feb. 18

Player of the Week: Scott Davis (L&C, Sr., G, Eugene, Ore.) led the Pioneers to three wins and the NWC title this week by scoring 69 points and adding 20 rebounds, 15 assists and six steals.
Honorable Mention: Matt Glynn (UPS, G) scored 72 points and dished 10 assists as UPS went 2-1; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F), totaled 42 points and 15 rebounds in two road wins; Pierre Elliott (Pacific, F) had 55 points, 15 assists and 14 rebounds in three games; Ben Fuller (Whitman, G) scored 38 points and added 10 rebounds in a road split; Erik Dordal (PLU, W) had 29 points as the Lutes went 1-1; Travis Jones (Linfield, F) totaled 41 points and 10 rebounds in two losses.

Feb. 10

Player of the Week: John Mietus (L&C, Jr., F, Spokane, Wash.) led the Pioneers to a pair of wins by scoring 34 points and grabbing 29 rebounds, including a season-high 19 rebounds vs. Puget Sound. He added six steals and four assits.
Honorable Mention: Marques Johnson (Willamette, P) led the Bearcats to two wins by scoring 35 points and adding 20 boards; Travis Meserve (Whitworth, G) scored 41 points, making 9/15 three-pointers, to lead the Pirates to a pair of wins; Treven Vander Ploeg (PLU, W) finished with 38 points and 15 rebounds in three games; Aubrey Shelton (UPS, F) finished with 64 points and 22 rebounds as the Loggers went 1-2; Ben Fuller (Whitman, G) had 39 points and five boards in two games.

Feb. 3

Player of the Week: O.J. Gulley (Linfield, So., G, Portland, Ore.) led the Wildcats to a pair of key wins by scoring 35 points and adding 15 assists, 14 rebounds and seven steals. He shot 54% from the floor.
Honorable Mention: Marques Johnson (Willamette, P) scored 32 points and added 18 rebounds in two road wins; Scott Davis (L&C, G) totaled 40 points and 15 rebounds in two games; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) had 37 points and 14 rebounds in two games; Hazen Hyland (PLU, W) had 37 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in two games; Rahim Tufts (Pacific, G) scored 37 points in three games; Ben Fuller (Whitman, G) finished with 31 points, 18 rebounds and eight assists in two losses.

Jan. 27

Player of the Week: B.J. Dobrkovsky (Willamette, Jr., W, Lebanon, Ore.) led the Bearcats back to the top of the NWC standings by scoring 45 points and adding 13 rebounds and six assists in two games. He shot 78% (18/23) from the field, including 5/6 from three point range.
Honorable Mention: Colin Oriard (Lewis & Clark, C) scored 46 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in two Pioneer road victories; Travis Jones (Linfield, C) finished with 44 points and 16 rebounds in two games; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) had 39 points and 14 rebounds in two games; Kevin Justice (Whitman, F) scored 34 points and added nine rebounds and eight assists in two contests; Hazen Hyland (PLU, W) scored 30 points off of the bench as the Lutes went 1-1, including an upset of Whitworth; Travis Melvin (George Fox, W) scored 41 points and added six assists in two losses; Brandon Kilgour (Pacific, G/F) finished with 16 points and three assists in a loss to Willamette.

Jan. 20

Player of the Week: John Meitus (Lewis & Clark, Jr., F, Spokane, Wash.) led the Pioneers to a 3-0 week by scoring 54 points, including a career-high 30 at Linfield, and grabbing 36 rebounds. He added five steals and five blocks.
Honorable Mention: Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) led the Pirates to a 3-0 week by scoring 51 points and adding 24 rebounds, nine assists and six steals; Matt Glynn (UPS, G) finished with 49 points, 12 boards and seven assists in two games; Rob Bell (Whitman, P) totaled 41 points, 24 rebounds and five blocks as the Missionaries went 2-1; O.J. Gulley (Linfield, G) had 53 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists in two losses; B.J. Dobrkovsky (Willamette, F) finished with 40 points and 15 rebounds in three games; Neil Mendez (PLU, P) totaled 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals at L&C.

Jan. 13

Player of the Week: Aubrey Shelton (UPS, Fr., P, Tacoma, Wash.) finished with 74 points (while shooting 54% from the field) and 20 rebounds in three road games, leading the Loggers to two wins.
Honorable Mention: Gunner Olsen (Whitworth, F) led the Pirates to a pair of wins by scoring 39 points and adding 15 boards and four assists; O.J. Gulley (Linfield, G) led the Wildcats to two victories by scoring 37 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and adding 11 assists and six steals; John Meitus (L&C, F) finished with 37 points and 25 rebounds in two games; Rob Bell (Whitman, P) had 32 points and 20 rebounds in two games; Brian Newton (Willamette, W) scored 34 points and added nine rebounds in two games; Pierre Elliott (Pacific, G) totaled 31 points and 10 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals in two games; Travis Melvin (George Fox, W) scored 58 points and had 10 rebounds and 13 assists in three losses; Neil Mendez (PLU, P) had 33 points and 18 rebounds in two losses.

Jan. 6

Player of the Week: O.J. Gulley (Linfield, So., G, Portland, Ore.) kept the Wildcats on target to repeat as NWC champions by scoring 20 points, dishing 17 assists and adding 13 rebounds and seven steals in two road wins.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Hepp (Willamette, G) finished with 29 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds in two wins; Matt Glynn (UPS, G) scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Loggers' loss to Pacific; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) totaled 42 points and 26 rebounds in three games; Parker Barth (PLU, PG) scored 25 points and added 16 assists as the Lutes went 1-1; Colin Oriard (L&C, F/C) had 24 points and 22 rebounds in two games; Ben Fuller (Whitman, G) scored 42 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and had eight steals in two losses; Rahim Tufts (Pacific, G) scored 24 points off of the bench in two games; Travis Melvin (George Fox, W) scored 32 points in two losses.

Dec. 30

Player of the Week: Bryan Depew (Whitworth, So, F, Spokane, Wash.) scored 55 points (hitting 63% of his shots), grabbed 22 rebounds and added five steals in three games last week.
Honorable Mention: Marques Johnson (Willamette, F) totaled game highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds in the Bearcats' win over Holy Names; Matt Glynn (UPS, G) finished with 22 points in the Loggers' loss at Western Oregon.

Dec. 22

Player of the Week: Marques Johnson (Willamette, Jr., F, Portland, Ore.) scored 24 points (10/14 fg) and added seven rebounds in a win at Warner Pacific.
Honorable Mention: O.J. Gulley (Linfield, G) scored 19 and added six assists and five rebounds in a win over Western Baptist; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a win over Eastern Oregon; Mark Bouma (Whitman, F) scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds in two games; Sean Linder (George Fox, W) totaled 29 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in two games.

Dec. 9

Player of the Week: Marques Johnson (Willamette, Jr., P, Portland, Ore.) led the Bearcats to a pair of Northwest Conference road wins by scoring 38 points (.750 FG%), grabbing 16 rebounds and blocking four shots.
Honorable Mention: O.J. Gulley (Linfield, G) scored 60 points and added 11 rebounds and 10 assists as the Wildcats went 1-1; Gunner Olsen (Whitworth, F) scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a win at Walla Walla; John Meitus (L&C, F) totaled 20 points and 21 rebounds in two games; Ben Fuller (Whitman, G) scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds in a loss at Whitman.

Dec. 2

Player of the Week: Scott Davis (L&C, Sr., G, Eugene, Ore.) was named MVP at the Redlands Tournament after leading the Pioneers to the team title and scoring 44 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and adding nine assists.
Honorable Mention: O.J. Gulley (Linfield, G) finished with 43 points, eight assists and seven steals in two games; Matt Glynn (UPS, G) scored 56 points as the Loggers went 1-1 at the PLU Classic; Josh Davis (PLU, P) scored 25 points and added 22 rebounds in two games at the PLU Classic; Dan Bailey (Pacific, C) scored 21 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in two wins; Rob Bell (Whitman, C) finished with 44 points and 14 rebounds in three games; Gunner Olsen (Whitworth, G) scored 27 points and added 11 boards in the Pirates' loss; Travis Melvin (George Fox, W) scored 36 points and added seven steals in two losses.

Nov. 26

Player of the Week: Bryan Depew (Whitworth, So., F, Greenacres, Wash.) led the Pirates to the tournament title at the inaugural Whitworth Hawaiian Invitational by scoring 40 points (making 81.8% of his shots) and grabbing 16 rebounds.
Honorable Mention: Scott Davis (L&C, G) was named to the LCSC All-Tournament team after scoring 43 points (55.1 FG%) and grabbing 7 rebounds as the Pioneers went 1-1 at the tournament; O.J. Gulley (Linfield, G) scored a career-high 39 points in a road loss at Warner Pacific; Ryan Hepp (Willamette, G) scored 34 points and added six assists as the Bearcats went 1-1 at the Flagship Inn Classic at SOU; Ray Figueroa (Pacific, G) scored 19 points in the Boxers' loss to Western Baptist.
