Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Feb. 23
NWC Player of the Week: Chase Williams
(Whitworth, Sr., G, Missoula, Mont.) led the Pirates to a pair of
wins by scoring 37 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and adding nine
assists.
Honorable Mention: Matt Glynn (Puget Sound, G) finished with 46
points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in two games; Nick Fusare
(Linfield, C) had 40 points, 30 rebounds and eight blocks in three
games; Erin Gram (Pacific, G) had 30 points, 11 assists, six
rebounds and three steals in a pair of wins; Ryan Hepp (Willamette,
G) totaled 46 points and 10 assists in three games; Colin Oriard
(Lewis & Clark, F) finished with 36 points, 16 rebounds and six
assists in a road split; Jonathan Anderson (PLU, G) scored 44
points in a pair of losses; Aaron Schmick (George Fox, W) totaled
30 points, eight rebounds and four assists in two losses; Mark
Bouma (Whitman, F) had 25 points, eight rebounds and four assists
in two losses.
Feb. 16
NWC Player of the Week: Marques Johnson
(Willamette, Sr., P, Portland, Ore.) led the Bearcats to a pair of
key wins with 35 points, 26 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Honorable Mention: Zach McVey (UPS, G) totaled 34 points and 14
rebounds in two wins; O.J. Gulley (Linfield, G) finished with 44
points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds in two games; Hazen Hyland (PLU,
W) had 28 points in two Lute wins; Paul Hafford (Whitworth, G)
scored 41 points and added 4 steals and assists in two games; Nick
Kelsey (Pacific, G) totaled 34 points and 10 rebounds in two
losses; Mark Bouma (Whitman, F) had 31 points and 11 rebounds in
two losses; Kenny Macy (George Fox, W) scored 27 points in two
losses.
Feb. 9
NWC Player of the Week: Bryan Depew (Whitworth,
Jr., F, Spokane, Wash.) made 55% of his shots while scoring 56
points and grabbing 10 rebounds in two Pirate victories.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Dunn (Linfield, G) had 48 points, 11
rebounds and five assists in two games; Joe Van Domelen (Pacific,
F) totaled 20 points and 12 rebounds in a Boxer victory; Miles
Sandgathe (Willamette, W) finished with 35 points and 10 boards in
two games; Greg Caldwell tallied 33 points and eight rebounds in
two games; Josh Davis finished with 25 points and nine rebounds in
a road split.
Feb. 2
NWC Player of the Week: Kristopher Speier
(Lewis & Clark, Sr., P, Salinas, Calif.) led the Pioneers to a
pair of road wins by making 57% of his shots and totaling 59 points
and 17 rebounds.
Honorable Mention: Marques Johnson (Willamette, P) had 21 points
and 10 rebounds in a key road win at UPS; Bryan Depew (Whitworth,
F) totaled 41 points and 12 rebounds in two road wins; O.J. Gulley
(Linfield, G) finished with 19 points and eight rebounds in a road
win at PLU; Mark Gayman (George Fox, W) had back to back
double-doubles in two losses, finishing with 24 points and 22
rebounds; Rahim Tufts (Pacific, G/F) had 21 points, 10 rebounds and
five assists in two games; Mark Bouma (Whitman, F) totaled 27
points and 16 rebounds in a road split.
Jan. 26
NWC Player of the Week: Colin Oriard (Lewis
& Clark, Sr., P, Corvallis, Ore.) scored 52 points, grabbed 22
rebounds and added four assists in two Pioneer wins that moved
L&C within a game of first place.
Honorable Mention: Neil Mendez (PLU, P) led the Lutes to a pair of
wins with 24 rebounds and 17 points; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F)
totaled 50 points and 11 rebounds in two games; Miles Sandgathe
(Willamette, W) had 47 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in two
games; Matt Larson (Linfield, G) finished with 48 points, 20
assists and 15 rebounds in three games; Zach McVey (UPS, F) totaled
26 points and 14 rebounds in two games; Greg Caldwell (Whitman, G)
had 33 points and nine rebounds in two losses; Zach Hollin (George
Fox, P) finished with 35 points and seven rebounds in two losses.
Jan. 19
NWC Player of the Week: Kristopher Spier (Lewis
& Clark, Sr., C, Salinas, Calif.) led the Pioneers past George
Fox, finishing with 34 points, seven rebounds and three
assists.
Honorable Mention: Paul Hafford (Whitworth, G) came off of the
bench to spark the Pirates to wins over Linfield and Willamette
with 34 points (including six threes) and eight rebounds; Erin Gram
(Pacific, G) sparked three Boxer wins with 40 points, nine rebounds
and 14 assists; Scott Erickson (Whitman, G) totaled 35 points,
eight assists and six rebounds as the Missionaries split a pair at
home.
Jan. 12
NWC Player of the Week: Ryan Hepp (Willamette,
Sr., PG, Hillsboro, Ore.) scored 24 points in each of the Bearcats'
wins (48 total) and added 10 assists and five steals.
Honorable Mention: Matt Glynn (UPS, G) totaled 35 points, seven
assists and six rebounds in two wins; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F)
had 43 points and 11 rebounds in two games; Erin Gram (Pacific, G)
finished with 41 points, 15 assists and seven steals as the Boxers
went 1-1; Kristopher Spier (L&C, P) totaled 59 points and 25
rebounds as the Pioneers went 1-2; Jonathan Anderson (PLU, G) had
36 points and 17 rebounds in the Lutes' split; Matt Larson finished
with 25 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds in two games.
Jan. 5
Co-NWC Players of the Week: Bryan Depew
(Whitworth, Jr., F, Spokane, Wash.) led the undefeated Pirates to a
3-0 week by scoring 64 points (21.3 points per game) and grabbing
20 rebounds (6.7 rebounds per game). He made 59.5% of his shots;
Nick Fusare (Linfield, Jr., C, Spokane, Wash.) helped the Wildcats
go 4-0, including a title at the Cactus Jam tournament, by totaling
41 points, 35 rebounds and 11 blocks.
Honorable Mention: Marques Johnson (Willamette, P) had 38 points
and 16 rebounds in two Bearcat wins; Danny Winchester (L&C, G)
scored 51 points and dished 14 assists as the Pios went 1-2; Casey
Nelson (Whitman, P) scored 38 points and grabbed 21 rebounds as the
Missionaries went 1-2; Matt Glynn (UPS, G) had 40 points and 8
assists in two losses; Mark Gayman (George Fox, W) totaled 47
points, 24 rebounds and five steals in three losses.
Dec. 26
NWC Player of the Week: Mark Bouma (Whitman, Sr., F, Conrad, Mont.) had an outstanding homecoming, sparking the Missionaries to a pair of wins in his home state by scoring 58 points, grabbing 30 rebounds and adding six assists.
Dec. 15
NWC Player of the Week: Mark Gayman (George
Fox, So., W, Hillsboro, Ore.) led the Bruins to a pair of road wins
by scoring 49 points, grabbing 19 rebounds and adding five
steals.
Honorable Mention: Chase Williams (Whitworth, G) scored 32 points
in a win over Western Baptist; Harold Sublett Jr. (Willamette, F)
totaled 19 points and 15 rebounds as the Bearcats went 1-1; B.J.
Anderson (Linfield, F) had 12 points and six rebounds off of the
bench in a loss at Portland State.
Dec. 8
NWC Player of the Week: Marques Johnson
(Willamette, Sr., P, Portland, Ore.) led the Bearcats to a pair of
wins at the John Lewis Classic by scoring 47 points and adding 18
rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Honorable Mention: Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) led the Pirates to a
4-0 week with 73 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists; Matt Larson
(Linfield, G) totaled 35 points, 13 rebounds, six steals and six
assists in two wins; Mark Gayman (George Fox, W) led the Bruins to
a 2-1 record at the Redlands tournament with 53 points, 13
rebounds, 8 steals and three blocks.
Dec. 1
NWC Player of the Week: Bryan Depew (Whitworth,
Jr., F, Spokane, Wash.) was the MVP of the Whitworth Hawaiian
Invitational after leading the Pirates to the title with 44 points
and nine rebounds.
Honorable Mention: Matt Larson (Linfield, G) totaled 24 points, 12
assists, 11 rebounds and four steals in two wins; Nate Tyler
(George Fox, W) scored 25 points and added nine rebounds and six
assists in the Bruins' loss; James Hill (UPS, F) scored 16 points
in the Loggers' loss at WWU.
Nov. 24
NWC Player of the Week: Matt Glynn (Puget
Sound, Jr., G, Eldorado Hills, Calif.) was named the MVP of the
Logger Tip-off Classic after totaling 31 points, 17 assists and
four rebounds in two wins.
Honorable Mention: Marques Johnson (Willamette, P) was named MVP of
the Menlo Bud Presley Classic after scoring 36 points and grabbing
nine rebounds; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) scored 25 points in the
Bucs' win over Carroll; Mark Bouma (Whitman, F) scored 29 points
and grabbed 20 rebounds at the Missionaries split the first two
games of the Walla Walla Tournament; Josh Davis (PLU, P) was
selected to the All-Classic team at UPS after combining 22 points
with 24 boards in the Lute split.
