2003-04 NWC Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week
Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Players of the Week
Feb. 29
NWC Player of the Week: Bryan Depew (Whitworth,
Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) scored 38 points and added 21 rebounds and
six assists in a pair of Pirate victories.
Honorable Mention: Chase Curtiss (UPS, F) had 36 points, 14
rebounds and four steals in two wins; Miles Sandgathe (Willamette,
F) finished with 33 points and 20 rebounds in two wins; Greg Ricker
(Whitman, G) totaled 34 points (making 14/17 shots) and eight
rebounds in two games; Mark Gayman recorded 44 points and 20
rebounds in two losses; Sam Kreiger (Linfield, C) had 40 points and
20 rebounds in three losses; Brandon Kawazoe (Pacific, G) had 58
points, nine rebounds and six assists in three games.
Feb. 22
Co-NWC Players of the Week: Bryan Depew
(Whitworth, Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) led the Pirates to a pair of
road wins with 57 points, while shooting 68% from the floor and 4/4
on three-pointers. He added 15 rebounds and four assists; Matt
Glynn (UPS, Sr., G, El Dorado Hills, Calif.) scored 49 points
(making 8/12 three-pointers), grabbed 10 rebounds and dished 11
assists while leading the Loggers to a pair of title-clinching
wins.
Honorable Mention: John Mietus (L&C, F) had three
double-doubles in three losses, finishing with 73 points, 44
rebounds and five assists; Brett Yeager (George Fox, W) totaled 21
points, five rebounds and three assists in the Bruins' win; Brandon
Kawazoe (Pacific, G) had 43 points, six rebounds and four assists
in two games; Nick Fusare (Linfield, C) recorded 32 points, 13
rebounds and four blocks in two games; Ryan Rahlfs (Willamette, F)
scored 31 points and grabbed ten boards in two games; Greg Ricker
(Whitman, G) finished with 22 points, 10 assists and four rebounds
in two losses.
Feb. 15
NWC Player of the Week: Chase Curtiss (UPS,
So., G, Santa Cruz, Calif.) scored 45 points by making 13/24
three-pointers (54.2%) and added seven rebounds in two road
wins.
Honorable Mention: Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) had 44 points, 13
rebounds and five assists in two games; Brandon Kawazoe (Pacific,
G) finished with 36 points, seven rebounds and three steals in two
games; Blake Shelton (Linfield, G) tallied 29 points and 11
rebounds in two wins; Michael Jacobs (PLU, P) recorded 21 points,
18 rebounds and three blocks in two games; Miles Sandgathe
(Willamette, F) had 26 points and six rebounds in two games; Greg
Ricker (Whitman, G) finished with 32 points, 13 assists and seven
rebounds in two losses; Ben Melvin (George Fox, G) totaled 42
points, 11 rebounds and four assists in three losses.
Feb. 8
NWC Player of the Week: Matt Glynn (UPS, Sr.,
G, El Dorado Hills, Calif.) led the Loggers to sole possession of
first place in the NWC with 52 points, 12 rebounds and 14 assists
in a pair of home victories.
Honorable Mention: John Gebbers (Whitworth, G) had 37 points, eight
rebounds and three steals in a pair of road wins; Aaron Schmick
(George Fox, W) totaled 47 points, eight assists and five rebounds
in two games; David Force (Willamette, G) finished with 36 points,
15 rebounds and eight assists in two games; Blake Shelton
(Linfield, G) scored 22 points and added four rebounds and two
steals in a win; Erin Gram (Pacific, G) had 22 points, five
rebounds and five assists in a loss at UPS; Ryan Wells (L&C, G)
contributed 29 points and nine rebounds in two games; Jason
Pasquariello (PLU, G) finished with 25 points, two rebounds and two
assists in two losses; Casey Nelson (Whitman, P) totaled 22 points
and six rebounds in two losses.

points, 16 rebounds and six assists.
Honorable Mention: Matt Glynn (UPS, G) totaled 49 points, eight
rebounds and eight assists in two wins; David Force (Willamette, G)
had 39 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in two wins; Mark Gayman
(George Fox, W) finished with 57 points and 17 rebounds in three
games (two wins); Blake Shelton (Linfield, G) contributed 46
points, nine rebounds and four steals in three games; Joe Van
Domelen (Pacific, F) scored 41 points and added 14 rebounds and
five steals in three games; Tommy Magnussen (L&C, F) finished
with 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in two games; Jake
Points (Whitman, F) had 25 points and 15 rebounds in two losses;
Kurt Oliver (PLU, G) totaled 31 points, five rebounds and four
assists in two losses.
Jan. 25
NWC Player of the Week: John Mietus (L&C,
Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) scored 59 points, including 40 in a loss to
UPS, and grabbed 26 rebounds while adding four blocks and four
steals in two games.
Honorable Mention: Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) totaled 57 points, 18
rebounds and four assists in two games; Matt Glynn (UPS, G) had 57
points, seven rebounds and seven assists in two games; Branden
Kawazoe (Pacific, G) finished with 28 points, six assists and four
rebounds in two road wins; Scott Szalay (George Fox, P) scored 24
points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a loss to Willamette; Greg
Caldwell (Whitman, G) recorded 38 points, 10 rebounds and six
assists in two losses; Jonathan Anderson (PLU, G) totaled 32 points
and seven rebounds in two road losses; Joe Neill (Linfield, G) had
25 points, five assists and four steals in two games.
Jan. 18
NWC Player of the Week: Matt Glynn (UPS, Sr.,
G, El Dorado Hills, Calif.) led the Loggers to a pair of wins with
48 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and seven steals. He made 54%
of his three-pointers (7/13) and 90% of his free throws (9/10).
Honorable Mention: Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) totaled 45 points and
20 rebounds in two games; John Mietus (L&C, F) had 36 points
and 20 rebounds in two games; John Broussard (Linfield, F) finished
with 28 points, 14 rebounds and five assists in two victories; John
Olinger (Willamette, G) scored 16 points in a win over L&C;
Greg Ricker (Whitman, G) had 24 points, 17 assists and six rebounds
in two games; Mark Gayman (George Fox, W) totaled 53 points, 18
rebounds and seven assists in three losses; Joe Van Domelen
(Pacific, F) finished with 53 points and 15 rebounds in three
games.
Jan. 13
NWC Player of the Week: Joe Van Domelen
(Pacific, So., F, Hillsboro, Ore.) made 67% of his shots, scored 40
points and grabbed 15 rebounds in two games.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Wells (L&C, G) scored 42 points and
made 14 three pointers in two games; Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F)
totaled 65 points and 16 rebounds in three games; Curtis Medved
(UPS, G) had 32 points and six rebounds in two wins; Jonathan
Anderson (PLU, G) collected 39 points, 10 rebounds and five assists
in two games; Casey Nelson finished with 36 points, 11 rebounds and
four assists in two games; Blake Shelton (Linfield, G) had 13
points, 8 rebounds and four steals in the ‘Cats' win; Scott
Szalay (George Fox, P) totaled 21 points and 20 boards in a pair of
losses.
Jan. 5
NWC Player of the Week: Bryan Depew (Whitworth,
Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) led the Pirates to three wins in California
by making 76% (29/38) of his shots and 88% (28/32) of his free
throws for 89 points (29.7 ppg). He added 14 rebounds and eight
assists.
Honorable Mention: Greg Ricker (Whitman, PG) had 22 points, eight
assists, four rebounds and three steals in a win; Jonathan Anderson
(PLU, G) totaled 20 points and seven rebounds in an overtime loss;
John Broussard (Linfield, F) finished with 49 points, nine rebounds
and six assists in three games; Aaron Schmick (George Fox, W) had
48 points, 12 rebounds, 14 assists and seven steals in three games.
Dec. 26
Co-NWC Players of the Week: Bryan Depew
(Whitworth, Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) led the Pirates to a pair of
wins at the Whitworth Hawaiian Classic by scoring 48 points (while
making 60% of his shots from the field) and adding 15 rebounds, six
assists and five steals; Danny Winchester (L&C, Sr., G,
Sacramento) scored 45 points, while draining 12 three-pointers, and
added 11 assists and four steals to help the Pioneers win the
Hayward Holiday Classic.
Honorable Mention: Matt Glynn (UPS, G) totaled 19 points, six
assists and four rebounds in a win at Evergreen; Blake Shelton
(Linfield, G) scored a career high 29 points in a loss to Western
Baptist.
Dec. 14
NWC Player of the Week: John Mietus (Lewis
& Clark, Sr., P, Spokane, Wash.) posted his sixth double-double
in seven games this season with 34 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks,
two steals and two assists in 28 minutes of the win over
Cascade.
Honorable Mention: Matt Glynn (UPS, G) had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6
assists and two steals in a win over Evergreen; Aaron Schmick
(George Fox, W) scored a career-high 29 points and added five
rebounds in a loss at Northwest; T.J. Middlesworth (Linfield, F)
totaled 30 points, nine rebounds and three assists in two games;
Drew Cardwell (PLU, W) finished with 26 points and 17 rebounds in a
pair of losses; Casey Nelson (Whitman, P) had 16 points and nine
rebounds in a loss to Evergreen; Rahim Tufts (Pacific, G/F) totaled
25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in two losses; Brennan
Garrelts (Willamette, F) scored 25 points and added nine rebounds
and four assists in two games.
Dec. 7
NWC Player of the Week: John Mietus (Lewis
& Clark, Sr., P, Spokane, Wash.) led the Pioneers to a pair of
victories, including a season sweep of NAIA DI LCSC, by scoring 58
points and grabbing 21 rebounds.
Honorable Mention: Joe Neill (Linfield, G) scored 21 points in a
win over WPC; Greg Ricker (Whitman, G) finished with 31 points,
nine assists and four rebounds in a pair of games; Scott Bierlink
(Whitworth, G) had 15 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals in
a win over Montana Tech; Sudon DeSuze (PLU, W) totaled 28 points
and 16 rebounds in a split at the EOU tournament; Scott Szalay
(George Fox, P) had 28 points and 13 rebounds in a split at the
Concordia tournament.
Nov. 30
NWC Player of the Week: Mark Gayman (George
Fox, Jr., W, Hillsboro, Ore.) led the Bruins to their first win
with 25 points and 13 rebounds against Warner Pacific.
Honorable Mention: Bryan Depew (Whitworth, F) totaled 37 points and
13 rebounds in a pair of games; Jason Heutink (PLU, G) finished
with 34 points, six assists and four rebounds in two games; Greg
Ricker (Whitman, G) had 23 points and seven assists in two
contests.
Nov. 23
NWC Player of the Week: John Mietus (L&C,
Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) led the Pioneers to a pair of wins,
including a victory over NAIA Div. I #15 L-C State, by scoring 49
points and adding 26 rebounds. He posted back to back
double-doubles.
Honorable Mention: Mark Gayman (George Fox, W) totaled 27 points,
four blocks and three steals in a loss to Northwest; Chase Curtis
(UPS, G) led the Loggers to two victories with 33 points and 11
rebounds; Joe Van Domelen (Pacific, F) scored 26 points (12/15
shooting) in a loss to Northwest; Matt Airy (Whitman, P) finished
with 20 points and six rebounds in a loss to Concordia; Sudon
DeSuze (PLU, W) had 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists in
two games.
