NWC Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 23-29
David Michaels
Whitman, Senior
Las Vegas, Nev./Valley HS
After matching his career-high (from earlier in the
season) with 31 points Friday night at Lewis & Clark, Michaels
erupted for 40 points to carry Whitman past George Fox Saturday
night in what was a battle for a share of second place in the
standings. With his team trailing 42-41 early in the second half
against Fox, Michaels scored Whitman's next 22 points over a
nine-minute span to lift the Missionaries into a 63-50 lead. He was
eight of eight from the field (4-4 from 3pt) and two of two from
the free throw line during the run, which also saw him grab two
rebounds and make one of his game-high seven steals. In conference
games only, Michaels is averaging an NWC-best 22.2 ppg while
shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor and 3-point line, and
over 82 percent from the free throw
line.
