2003 NWC Men's Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week
Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week
Nov. 9
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Dan Potter
(George Fox, Fr., M, Medford, Ore.) scored both Bruin goals in the
win over Pacific.
Honorable Mention: Harald Haraldsen (Linfield, F) had a goal and an
assist as the Wildcats rallied from two goals down to win at
Willamette; Matt Knoll (Whitworth, M) finished with a goal and an
assist in a win; Michael Rosenau (PLU, F) scored the match-tying
goal vs. UPS; Adam Mashofsky (Willamette, F) scored a goal vs.
Linfield.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Ron Besser
(George Fox, Sr., GK, Kennewick, Wash.) made eight saves to record
his first shutout of the season (and seventh of his career).
Honorable Mention: Phil Haines (Linfield, GK) made six saves and
allowed two goals; Kelly LaProwse (PLU, D) led the defensive effort
against the Loggers.
Nov. 2
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Tyler Niemack
(UPS, Jr., F, Auburn, Wash.), the NWC's leading scorer with 16
goals, added two this weekend to lead the Loggers to a pair of
wins.
Honorable Mention: Niko Varlamos (Whitworth, F) scored a pair of
goals at Willamette; Jason Wong (Linfield, F) had a goal and two
assists in Linfield's win over Whitman; Jason Kintner (George Fox,
M) scored two goals in a loss at PLU.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Kevin Bostock
(Whitworth, Fr., GK, Whitefish, Mont.) posted two shutouts, while
making ten saves in 200 minutes.
Honorable Mention: Phil Haines (Linfield, GK) made nine saves and
did not allow a goal in 155 minutes; Mike Gallegos (UPS, D) led the
Logger defense that allowed only one goal and three shots on goal
in two wins.
Oct. 26
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Anthony
Fioretti (UPS, Jr., F, Auburn, Wash.) scored three goals and added
an assist to lead the Loggers to a pair of wins.
Honorable Mention: Sean Chighizola (Linfield, D) scored twice and
added an assist in two wins; Ben DeSanno (Willamette, F) had two
goals and an assist in two matches; Steve Mohn (PLU, M) finished
with a goal and an assist in two matches.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Grant
Williams (Linfield, Fr., GK, Newberg, Ore.) recorded two shutouts
and made eight saves in two wins.
Honorable Mention: Kevin Bostock (Whitworth, GK) made six saves and
allowed one goal in two games; Jared Harman (PLU, GK) posted a
shutout and made four saves in his only match; Dave Eaton
(Willamette, GK) made nine saves and allowed only one goal in his
only match vs. GFU.
Oct. 19
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: J.R.
Remmington (Whitworth, Sr., D, Spokane, Wash.) scored both goals in
a 2-1 win at Pacific to help the Pirates win twice over the
weekend.
Honorable Mention: Kris Van Houten (George Fox, M) scored two goals
in a win over Whitman; Ben DeSanno (Willamette, F) scored two goals
in two games, including the match-winner at PLU; Niels Larson
(Whitman, M) scored two goals in a pair of matches; Yoshi Kawase
(Linfield, F) scored the match-winner at PLU.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Sean
Chighizola (Linfield, Sr., D, Seattle, Wash.) played 180 minutes to
lead the Wildcat defensive effort that posted a pair of road
shutouts.
Honorable Mention: Kevin Bostock (Whitworth, GK) made seven saves
and allowed one goal in two road wins.
Oct. 12
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Tyler Niemack
(UPS, Jr., F, Altadena, Calif.) scored four goals, including a hat
trick at Pacific, in two matches.
Honorable Mention: Kris Van Houten (George Fox, M) scored two goals
and added an assist in two matches; Jonathan Carlson (Whitworth, F)
had a goal and two assists; Aaron Sherrill (Linfield, F) scored the
match winner at Whitworth and added an assist; Gabe Andrews (PLU,
D) scored the match winner at George Fox.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Sean
Chighizola (Linfield, Sr., D, Seattle, Wash.) helped hold Whitman
and Whitworth to one goal apiece in two wins.
Honorable Mention: Jorgan Peadon (UPS, D) played 180 minutes, as
the Loggers allowed only two goals in two matches.
Oct. 5
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Tyler Niemack
(UPS, Jr., F, Alta Denna, Calif.) scored two goals, both match
winners, and added an assist in two wins that lifted the Loggers
into first place.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Waggoner (Whitman, F) had two goals and an
assist in two matches; Evan Hendrickson (Whitworth, M) had a goal
and an assist in two wins; Bobby Shinn (Pacific, F) recorded three
assists in two matches; Jason Shaffer (PLU, F) scored the
match-winning goal at Willamette.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: No

NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Adam
Mashofsky (Willamette, Sr., F, Eugene, Ore.) scored three goals in
three Bearcat victories, including the match-winners at Linfield
and George Fox.
Honorable Mention: Tyler Niemack (UPS, F) scored two goals, both
game winners, as UPS went 2-0-1; Colby Ayonon (Linfield, M) had a
goal and two assists in three matches; Bobby Shinn (Pacific, F) had
two goals in three matches; Justin Stevens (PLU, M) had a goal and
an assist in three matches; Michael Chapman (George Fox, F) scored
a pair of goals in three losses.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Brian Lawson
(UPS, So., GK, Gig Harbor, Wash.) allowed only one goal in three
matches, posting two shutouts and helping the Loggers to a 2-0-1
start.
Honorable Mention: Sean Chighizola (Linfield, D) helped the
Wildcats post two shutouts in three matches; Jared Harman (PLU, GK)
allowed three goals and made ten saves in three matches; Jason
Salzman (Pacific, D) played well.
Sept. 21
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Kris Van
Houten (George Fox, Fr., M, Beaverton, Ore.) scored twice and added
an assist in the win over Northwest.
Honorable Mention: Peter Randall (Whitman, M) had a goal and an
assist in the Missionaries' win; Kyle Chown (Pacific, D) had a goal
and an assist as the Boxers split two matches.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Tyler
Chisholm (Whitman, Sr., D, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) anchored a
defensive effort that did not allow a single shot in the
Missionaries' shutout win.
Honorable Mention: No other nominees.
Sept. 14
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Michael
Rosenau (PLU, Sr., F, Newberg, Ore.) led the Lutes to a pair of
wins by scoring four goals, including a hat trick against Northwest
and the match-winner against Cascade.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Waggoner (Whitman, F) scored both goals in
a win over La Verne; Jason Wheeler (Pacific, M) scored both
match-winning goals for the Boxers; Jonathan Carlson (Whitworth, F)
scored two goals vs. La Verne; Yoshi Kawase (Linfield, F) had a
goal and assist vs. Menlo; Ricardo Sanchez (Willamette, F) had a
goal and assist vs. Lakeland.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Eric Dottarar
(Whitman, Jr, GK, Beaverton, Ore.) shut out La Verne by making
eight saves.
Honorable Mention: Jared Harmon (PLU, GK) did not allow a goal in a
match and a half of action, making five saves; JR Remmington
(Whitworth, D) helped the Pirates limit La Verne to one shot on
goal; Jason Salzman (Pacific, D) helped the Boxers limit Cascade to
one shot, while allowing three goals in two wins; Bryce Warren
(George Fox, GK) made six saves in a 2-1 win at CSUH in his only
match.
Sept. 7
NWC Offensive Player of the Week: Ryan
McClellan (Linfield, Sr., D, Bend, Ore.) had a goal and two assists
in three wins last week.
Honorable Mention: Jonathan Carlson (Whitworth, MF) had two goals
in two wins; Tony Jacka (PLU) had a goal and an assists in two
matches; Jeff Waggoner (Whitman, F) scored one goal in two matches.
NWC Defensive Player of the Week: Phil Haines
(Linfield, Sr., GK, Bend, Ore.) recorded three shutouts, making 19
saves.
Honorable Mention: Jon Bosh (Whitworth, GK) recorded a pair of
shutouts, stopping five shots.
