Whitworth University will open the 2012 NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament against Mississippi College on Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.
Trinity University will host the first and second round matches. The Tigers will play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the other first round match up.
"The NCAA Tournament is always a great place to be; there is just an added excitement that comes with it and memories that will last a lifetime," said Whitworth head coach Sean Bushey. "We'll look forward to the opportunity to travel and Trinity will do a great job of hosting."
Whitworth is 13-2-3 after winning its seventh Northwest Conference title in the last nine years with a 10-2-2 record. Senior goalkeeper Kyle Novak has a 0.29 goals-against average, which ranks fourth in the nation. Sophomore forward Robby Ubben has seven goals this season, five of which have been match-winning tallies.
Mississippi College comes into the tournament 12-5-2 after claiming the automatic berth from the American Southwest Conference. The Chocktaws advanced on a 5-4 penalty kick shootout over Texas-Dallas in the tournament title match. Mississippi also had to get through the semifinals on penalty kicks, 4-3 over Hardin-Simmons.
The time of Saturday's first round matches is yet to be determined.
"The opportunity to play Mississippi College is unique as their head coach (Kevin Johns) and I were teammates in college," Bushey said. "He's a good man who has always been passionate about soccer. I am certain his team will play as such."
