2006 NWC Softball Student-Athletes of the Week

May 1:

NWC Player of the Week: Heather Case (Whitworth, So., IF, Poulsbo, Wash. - North Kitsap HS) batted .500 (6 for 12) in the championship-deciding series at Linfield. She hit game winning home runs in the first and third games of the series.
Honorable Mention: Hailey Gee (UPS, Sr., 1B); Kristen Croxford (Pacific, Fr., OF); Brittany Dearing (Willamette, Sr., OF).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Brittany Miller (Linfield, Fr., RHP, Port Orchard, Wash. - South Kitsap HS) went 2-0 in the championship clinching series with a 0.58 ERA. She struck out 14 and walked nine, giving up five hits in 12 innings.
Honorable Mention: Andrea Bansen (Pacific, So., RHP).

April 24:

NWC Player of the Week: Katie Sabol (UPS, Fr., C/DP, Salt Lake City, Utah - Judge Memorial) batted .467 (7 for 15) in four weekend games. She hit three home runs and a double, finishing with 14 runs batted in a six runs scored.
Honorable Mention: Stephanie Morgan (Linfield, Sr., 1B); Molly Barnes (Willamette, Jr., 3B); Liz Stuhlmiller (PLU, Sr., OF); Kayla Winkler (George Fox, Jr., 2B); Kelsey Herstad (Pacific, Sr., SS).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Kendra Strahm (Linfield, Fr., RHP, Medford, Ore. - North Medford) went 3-0 with a save in six appearances. She allowed five runs (four earned) on 21 hits in 21.0 innings. She struck out 16 batters.
Honorable Mention: Brittney Tachara (Willamette, So.).

April 17:

NWC Player of the Week: Lindsay Davis (Whitworth, Jr., C, Lake Forest, Calif. - Laguna Hills HS) batted .545 (6 for 11) in four games, including two doubles and a home run. She scored five times and drove in three runs.
Honorable Mention: LaShawna Holcomb (Willamette, Fr., OF); Kim Whittaker (Pacific, So., 2B).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jo Sonnett (Whitworth, Sr., RHP, Puyallup, Wash. - Emerald Ridge HS) went 3-0 against L&C, with a pair of 5-inning no hitters. In 17 innings she allowed one run on five hits with 25 strikeouts and one walk.
Honorable Mention: Brittany Miller (Linfield, Fr., RHP); Amy Walters (Pacific, Fr.); Nikki Franchi (Willamette, Fr.).

April 10:

NWC Player of the Week: LaShawna Holcomb (Willamette, Fr., OF, Renton, Wash. - Hazen HS) hit .467 (7 for 15) with two triples, a home run and a double. She drove in eight runs and scored five times.
Honorable Mention: Heather Case (Whitworth, So., IF); Amanda Attleberger (Linfield, So., DP); Kelsey Herstad (Pacific, Sr., SS); Gretchen Ruecker (PLU, Sr., 1B).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jo Sonnett (Whitworth, Sr., RHP, Puyallup, Wash. - Emerald Ridge HS) went 3-0 against UPS, pitching a pair of complete games and one relief appearance. She allowed two runs in 15.2 innings (0.89 ERA) with 24 K's.
Honorable Mention: Andrea Bansen (Pacific So.); Blair Cuny (Willamette, Fr.); Brittany Miller (Linfield, Fr., RHP); Candace Howard (PLU, Sr., RHP).

April 3:

NWC Player of the Week: Kristin Hanson (Whitworth, Sr., IF, Hamilton, Mont. - Hamilton HS) led the Pirates to a series sweep by hitting .667 (8 of 12) and driving in 12 runs. She had two home runs, two doubles and a triple, scoring six times.
Honorable Mention: Erica Hancock (Linfield, Fr., 3B/P); Gretchen Ruecker (PLU, Sr., 1B); Caitlin Mastenbroek (Pacific, So., C); Katie Sabol (UPS, Fr., C/DP); Nikki Franchi (Willamette, Fr., DH/P).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Kendra Strahm (Linfield, Fr., RHP, Medford, Ore. - North Medford HS) went 3-0 with three complete games. She allowed three runs on nine hits in 20 innings, striking out 18 and walking six.

March 27:

NWC Player of the Week: Kristen Croxford (Pacific, Fr., OF, Klamath Falls, Ore. - Klamath Union) hit .571 (8 for 14) over four games, including an upset of 3rd-ranked Chapman. She drove in two and scored five runs with three doubles.
Honorable Mention: Gretchen Ruecker (PLU, Sr., 1B); Sarah Froman (Whitworth, Fr., OF/DH); Stephanie Rice (Linfield, So., OF); Geneva Hale (Willamette, So., 1B).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jo Sonnett (Whitworth, Sr., RHP, Puyallup, Wash. - Emerald Ridge) went 3-1 with four complete games, including an 8-inning win over 8th-ranked Williams. She had a 2.41 ERA and struck out 36 batters in 29 innings.
Honorable Mention: Cathy Kirkevold (PLU, Fr.); Erica Hancock (Linfield, So., RHP); Amy Walters (Pacific, Fr.); Brittney Tachara (Willamette).

March 20:

NWC Player of the Week: Lindsay Fujita (Puget Sound, So., 2B, Honolulu, Hawaii - Punahou HS) led the Loggers to a 7-1 week at the Sunwest Tournament in Orange, Calif. by hitting .370 (10 for 27). She had three home runs and a double while driving in 11 runs and scoring 11 runs. She had only one error in 25 chances.
Honorable Mention: Sara Rylaarsdam (Whitworth, Fr., 1B); Christy Hatton (L&C, Fr., IF).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jessica Roberts (Puget Sound, Jr., P, Sumner, Wash. - Sumner HS) went 3-0 in California. She did not allow a run in 12.1 innings pitched. She gave up only two hits, while walking seven and striking out 13 batters. She had a five-inning no-hitter against Knox.
Honorable Mention: Jo Sonnett (Whitworth, Sr., RHP); Nathalie Matson (L&C, Sr.).

March 13:

NWC Player of the Week: Amanda Attleberger (Linfield, So., 1B/DH, Vancouver, Wash. - Columbia River HS) hit .556 (5 for 9) with a 1.333 slugging percentage in four games with two home runs and a double and five walks. She drove in seven runs and scored three more.
Honorable Mention: Caitlin Mastenbroek (Pacific, So., C); Kristen Hanson (Whitworth, Sr., IF); Hailey Gee (UPS, Sr., 1B); Molly Barnes (Willamette, Jr., 3B).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jennifer Eckhoff (Whitworth, So., RHP, Irvine, Calif. - Irvine HS) went 2-0 at PLU with two complete games. She allowed one run in 15 innings (0.47 ERA) on ten hits and three walks. She struck out ten batters.
Honorable Mention: Candace Howard (PLU, Sr., RHP); Andrea Bansen (Pacific, So.); Brittany Miller (Linfield, Fr., RHP); Blair Cuny (Willamette, Fr.).

March 6:

NWC Player of the Week: Shelly Steinke (Linfield, Sr., OF, Canby, Ore. - Canby HS) hit .560 (14/25) in six games. She hit four home runs, drove in 12 runs and scored eight times. She led the Wildcats to five wins.
Honorable Mention: Katie Sabol (UPS, Fr., C/DP); Gretchen Ruecker (PLU, Sr., 1B); Sara Rylaarsdam (Whitworth, Fr., 1B); Caitlin Mastenbroek (Pacific, So., C); Liz Gilgan (Willamette, So., IF).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Jo Sonnett (Whitworth, Sr., RHP, Spokane, Wash. - Emerald Ridge HS [Puyallup]) went 3-0 over the weekend, throwing two complete game victories and picking up a win in relief. She allowed two earned runs and had 15 strikeouts with one walk in 17.2 innings.
Honorable Mention: Candace Howard (PLU, Sr., P); Adrian Herlache (UPS, Sr., P); Andrea Bansen (Pacific, So., P).

Feb. 27:

NWC Player of the Week: Kelsey Herstad (Pacific, Sr., 2B, Port Orchard, Wash. - South Kitsap) led the Boxers to a 4-2 week by hitting .474 (9/19) with a double and a home run. She drove in five runs and scored three. She also stole six bases in seven attempts and did not commit an error in 22 defensive chances.
Honorable Mention: Geneva Hale (Willamette, So., 1B); Meaghan Barr (George Fox, Fr., C/2B).

NWC Pitcher of the Week: Caitlyn Chewning (Pacific, Fr., P, Willamina, Ore. - Willamina HS) went 2-0 in three relief appearances. She allowed three runs, two earned, in 11 total innings with four strikeouts and three walks.
Honorable Mention: No other nominees.
