Northwest Conference Swimmers of the Week

Feb. 18

Men's Outstanding Swimmer of the NWC Championship Meet: Brady Childs (Willamette, So., Beaverton, Ore.) was the only three-time individual champion. He won the 500 Free on Thursday, the 200 Free on Friday and the 200 Fly on Saturday - all three in NCAA provisional qualifying time.

Women's Outstanding Swimmer of the NWC Championship Meet: Katie King (Whitworth, So., Woodinville, Wash.) was the only three-time individual champion in the women's competition. She won the 500 Free on Thursday, the 200 Free on Friday and the 200 Fly on Saturday. The 200 Fly time was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Feb. 4

Men's Swimmer of the Week: Troy Schuknecht (Whitworth, Jr., Bend, Ore.) won all four of his individual events and anchored two winning relays to lead the Pirates to a pair of dual meet wins. He won the 200 Free (1:48.47) and 100 Breaststroke (1:00.44) at Willamette and the 100 meter Free (55.37) and 200 meter Breaststroke (2:27.48) at UPS. He anchored both winning medley relays.
Honorable Mention: Richard Cromwell (PLU, Fr.) won the 1,000 Free (10:03.79), 100 Free (49.49) and 500 Free (4:55.72) in a narrow loss at Linfield; Tucker Jackson (Whitman, Sr.) placed 11th at the Washington Open in an NWC-best 21.70 in the 50 Freestyle; Craig Gonzales (Linfield, Fr.) won the 200 Butterfly (1:58.96), finished 2nd in the 200 Free and swam on the winning medley relay.

Women's Swimmer of the Week: Carla Fellezs (UPS, Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) led the Loggers to a win over Whitworth by winning the 200 meter Free (2:09.77) and 200 meter Backstroke (2:26.38) in NCAA B qualifying time. She also swam on the winning 400 Medley Relay.
Honorable Mention: Avan Pendleton (Linfield, So.) won the 1,000 Free (11:11.54) and 200 Backstroke (2:17.09) and led off the winning 400 Free relay; Erin Kay (Whitworth, Sr.) won four individual events in two meets. She won the 200 I.M. (2:15.99) and 100 Free (56.07) at Willamette and the 400 meter I.M. (5:26.91) and 200 meter Breaststroke (2:51.03) at UPS; Lauren Pawlawski (PLU, Jr.) won the 1,000 Free (11:42.20) and 500 Free (5:43.15) in the loss at Linfield.

Jan. 28

Men's Swimmer of the Week: Richard Cromwell (PLU, Sr., Lakewood, Wash.) won four individual events and was part of a winning relay as the Lutes went 1-1 last week. He won the 1,000 Free (10:19.73), the 200 Back (1:58.92) and was part of the winning 400 Free relay (3:44.16) in the Lutes' loss to NAIA #2 Seattle. He won the 100 Free (50.27) and the 100 Back (57.43) in PLU's win over Willamette.
Honorable Mention: Brady Childs (Willamette, So.) won the 200 Free (1:46.01), the 200 IM (2:03.61) and the 500 Free (4:57.05) in the Bearcats loss to PLU.

Women's Swimmer of the Week: Annika Nelson (PLU, Jr., Burlington, Wash.) won three individual events over the weekend. She won the 200 Breaststroke (2:37.07) and finished 2nd in the 400 Individual Medley (5:07.58) in PLU's loss to NAIA #3 Seattle. She won the 200 IM (2:23.63) and the 100 Butterfly (1:04.60) and was part of the winning 200 Medley relay in the Lutes' win over Willamette.
Honorable Mention: Jessica Ford (Willamette, Fr.) won the 50 Free (25.89) and 100 Free (57.35) in a win over CSU-Hayward. She also won the 50 Free and 100 Free in the loss at PLU; Jamie Brown (Linfield, So.) won the100 Butterfly (1:01.90) and 50 Free (26.60) in the Wildcats' loss to CSU-Hayward.

Jan. 21

Men's Swimmer of the Week: Brent Rice (Whitworth, Jr., Des Moines, Wash.) won four individual events as the Pirates competed against the top two teams in the NAIA. He won the 200 I.M. (1:56.68) and 100 Freestyle (48.28) against #1 Simon Fraser. He also won the 200 Freestyle (1:45.64) and 100 Butterfly (52.88) against #2 Seattle. Three of the times were the fastest times in the NWC this season. The fourth (200 Free) was the second fastest.
Honorable Mention: Brady Childs (Willamette, So.) won the 200 I.M. (2:02.50) and 200 Butterfly (2:00.27) in the Bearcats' win over Whitman College.

Women's Swimmer of the Week: Nadia Markovchick (Willamette, Fr., Golden, Colo.) won two events and led off the winning 400 Free relay to lead the Bearcats past Whitman in a dual meet. She won the 1,650 Free (18:57.33) and 100 Free (58.42). She was the first swimmer on the winning relay (3:54.18).
Honorable Mention: Marta Holsinger won a pair of individual events against NAIA #1 Simon Fraser and NAIA #3 Seattle. She won the 200 I.M. (2:18.17) against Simon Fraser and the 100 Butterfly (1:02.37) against Seattle.

Jan. 14

Men's Swimmer of the Week: Brady Childs (Willamette, So., Beaverton, Ore.) won three events in the dual meet at Linfield. He won the 200 Free (1:47.80), 100 Fly (53.25), and 500 Free (4:52.48).
Honorable Mention: Troy Schuknecht (Whitworth) won three events in two meets this weekend. He won the 100 Free (48.86) and 200 Breast (2:12.65) vs. CWU and the 100 Free (48.93) vs. PLU.

Women's Swimmer of the Week: Nadia Markovchick (Willamette, Fr., Golden, Colo.) won two events and led off the winning 200 Free relay to lead the Bearcats past Linfield in a dual meet. She won the 200 Free (2:01.88) and 500 Free (5:30.67).
Honorable Mention: Erin Kay (Whitworth) won four events as Whitworth split a pair of dual meets. She won the 200 I.M. twice (2:16.05), the 200 Back (2:17.02) and the 200 Breast (2:34.58).

Jan. 7

Men's Swimmer of the Week: Craig Gonzales (Linfield, Fr., Carmel, Calif.) won all five individual events he competed in last week. He won the 200 Fly (1:59.21) and 500 Free at Seattle and the 1000 Free (10:26.24), 400 I.M. (4:15.93), and 200 Back (1:57.60) vs. Pomona-Pitzer.
Honorable Mention: Andrew Caruthers (UPS) won the 200 Free (1:49.90) and 100 Back (55.72) at Pomona-Pitzer/Redlands.

Women's Swimmer of the Week: Carla Fellez (UPS, Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) won three events to lead the Loggers past Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands. She won the 200 I.M. (2:17.81), 100 Free (55.31) and 100 Breaststroke (1:12.08).

Dec. 3

Men's Swimmer of the Week: Kevin Wang (Whitworth, Fr., Redmond, Wash.) won three events to lead the Pirates to the men's championship at the Northwest Invitational, hosted by Linfield. He won the 500 Free (4:45.14), 1,650 Free (16:22.31) and 400 I.M. (4:07.93). The 400 I.M. and 1,650 were NCAA B qualifying marks.
Honorable Mention: Tucker Jackson (Whitman) won the 50 Free (22.03), 100 Free (48.50) and 200 Free (1:49.16) at the NW Invitational to tie for high point honors. . . Richard Cromwell (PLU) placed second in the 500 Free, 1,650 Free and 100 Backstroke at the NW Invitational.

Women's Swimmer of the Week: Avan Pendleton (Linfield, So., Hood River, Ore.) became the first NWC woman to earn an NCAA B qualifying mark when she won the 200 Breaststroke in a time of 2:28.50. She also placed 2nd in the 200 Free and 3rd in the 500 Free.
Honorable Mention: Erin Kay (Whitworth) won both the 200 and 400 I.M. events (2:16.30 and 4:55.05) and placed 3rd in the 200 Breaststoke to lead the Pirates to the women's team title . . . Annie Findlay (Whitman) placed third in both the 400 I.M. and 100 Breaststroke and 4th in the 200 Breaststoke.

Nov. 12

Women's Swimmer of the Week: Katie King (Whitworth, So., Woodinville, WA) won three individual events and was part of two winning relays to lead the Pirates to a pair of dual meet victories. She won the 200 and 500-yard freestyles in the win over Linfield and she won the 200 free vs. L&C.
Honorable Mention: Annie Findlay (Whitman) won three events (200 IM, 400 IM, 200 Breaststroke) and finished second once in four individual events as the Missionaries split with Linfield and L&C.

Men's Swimmer of the Week: Kevin Wang (Whitworth, Fr., Redmond, WA) won five individual events as the Pirates swept Linfield and Lewis & Clark. He won the 1000 and 500 Freestyles and 400 IM against Linfield and won the 200 Free and 100 Fly vs. Lewis & Clark.
Honorable Mention: Tucker Jackson (Whitman) won all four of his individual events in a pair of losses to Linfield and L&C. He won the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles and won the 100 fly.
