2002-03 NWC Swimming Student-Athletes of the Week
Northwest Conference Swimmers of the Week
Feb. 2
NWC Women's Swimmer of the Week: Amy Singleton
(Linfield, Sr., Yreka, Calif.) won three individual events and was
on two winning relays to lead the Wildcats to a pair of dual meet
victories. She won the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.61) vs. Willamette
and won the 200 Free (2:06.00) and 200 Breast (2:33.59) vs.
PLU.
Honorable Mention: Kristen Satterfield (Whitworth) won the 100
(54.49) and 200 (1:57.44) Freestyles vs. Seattle.
NWC Men's Swimmer of the Week: Ben Karlin
(Linfield, Fr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) won all four of his individual
events in a sweep of dual meets. He won the 50 (22.12) and 100
(49.37) Freestyles vs. Willamette and won the same events (22.29
and 48.48) vs. Pacific Lutheran.
Honorable Mention: Kevin Wang (Whitworth) won the 1,650 Free
(15:59.73), 200 I.M. (1:55.82) and 500 Free (4:39.86) in a loss to
Seattle; Aaron Hesla (PLU) won the 400 I.M. (4:27.69) in a loss at
Linfield.
Jan. 19
NWC Women's Swimmer of the Week: Kristen
Satterfield (Whitworth, Sr., Boise, Idaho) won all four of her
individual events and anchored two winning relays. At UPS she won
the 200 meter Freestyle (2:11.09) and 100 meter Free (1:00.66) and
was on the winning 400 Free Relay. At Willamette she won the 50
yard Free (26.09), 100 Free (55.86) and was on the winning 200
Medley Relay.
Honorable Mention: Alexis Jinbo-Doran (Whitman) led the
Missionaries past PLU by winning the 400 I.M. (5:03.40), 100 Free
(58.32) and 100 Breaststroke (1:12.93); Katie Knepp (Linfield) won
the 200 Free (2:04.51), 100 Free (56.26) and was on the winning 200
Free Relay (1:48.15) in a win over L&C.
NWC Men's Swimmer of the Week: Ryan Freeman
(Whitworth, Sr., Portland, Ore.) led the Pirates to a pair of wins
over the weekend. He won the 200 meter I.M. (2:11.77) and 200 meter
Backstroke (2:07.16) at UPS and won the 100 yard Butterfly (53.20)
and 100 Back (51.92) at Willamette. He also led off a pair of
winning medley relays.
Honorable Mention: Craig Gonzales (Linfield) won the 200 Free
(1:49.70) and 200 Back (2:00.40) and was part of the winning 200
Free relay vs. L&C.
Dec. 8
Men's Swimmer of the Week: Kevin Wang
(Whitworth, Jr., Redmond, Wash.) placed in six individual events at
the Husky Invitational, including a win in the 400 I.M. (4:00.45).
He also placed 4th in the 500 Free (4:33.70) and 5th in the 200
I.M. (1:53.89). He placed 8th in the 200 Free and 10th in the 200
backstroke.
Honorable Mention: Tag Veal (UPS) earned an NCAA B cut at the Husky
Invitational in the 200 Fly (1:55.43) and also picked up
season-bests in the 500 Free (4:46.15), 200 I.M. (2:00.20) and 100
Fly (53.08); Craig Gonzales (Linfield) won the 200 I.M. (2:00.18),
the 100 Fly (54.19) and the 200 Back (1:59.23) at the Northwest
Invitational; Jason Hesla (Pacific Lutheran) won the 400 I.M.
(4:28.55) and 200 Breaststroke (2:19.63) and placed second in the
200 I.M. (2:04.27) in the 200 I.M. at the Northwest Invitatational.
Women's Swimmer of the Week: Breanna Trygg
(Puget Sound, Fr., Eagan, Minn.) earned NCAA automatic qualifying
times in the 100 Backstroke (57.52) and 200 Back (2:04.43) at the
Husky Invitational. She also hit season bests in the 50 Free
(25.31) and 200 Free (1:57.96).
Honorable Mention: Amy Singleton (Linfield) won the 400 I.M.
(4:57.07) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:30.93) and took 4th in the
200 I.M. (2:20.05) at the Northwest Invitational; Amber Mazeika
(PLU) was second in the 200 Free (2:03.13) and 500 Free (5:30.74)
at the Northwest Invitational.
Nov. 24
Men's Swimmer of the Week: Ian Phillips (Puget
Sound, Fr., Albuquerque, NM) led the Loggers past the Lutes by
winning the 50 meter free (24.76) and 100 meter free (55.51) and
anchoring the winning 200 meter medley relay (1:51.58)
Honorable Mention: Jason Hesla (PLU) won the 200 meter I.M.
(2:19.94) and finished second in the 100 meter breaststroke
(1:10.46) in the loss to UPS.
Women's Swimmer of the Week: Breanna Trygg
(Puget Sound, Fr., Eagan, Minn.) was key to the victory over PLU
with wins in the 200 meter free (2:14.19) and 400 meter free
(4:49.65) and added a leg in the winning 200 meter free relay
(1:46.20).
Honorable Mention: Amber Mazeika (PLU) won the 1,500 meter free
(18:56.90), finished 2nd in the 400 meter free (4:50.75) and took
3rd in the 200 meter free (2:17.90) at UPS.
Nov. 17
Men's Swimmer of the Week: Ryan Freeman
(Whitworth, Sr., Portland, Ore.) led Whitworth to a pair of dual
meet wins by winning four individual events, two in NCAA
provisional qualifying time. He won the 200 butterfly (1:54.98 -
NCAA B) and 200 backstroke (1:57.43) vs. CWU and won the 50 free
(22.73) and 100 backstroke (52.75 - NCAA B) at Whitman.
Honorable Mention: Andy Peters (Linfield) won the 400 I.M.
(4:19.63) and placed second in the 500 free (4:58.61) and 1,000
free (10:15.88) in a loss to Puget Sound; Kris Sletten (PLU) won
the 50 free (22.55) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.15) in a win at
L&C; B.J. Wright (Willamette) won the 200 free (1:55.41) and
100 free (50.49) in a win over Evergreen State.
Women's Swimmer of the Week: Meagan Mandeville
(Fr., Linfield) won the 500 free (5:28.52) and 1,000 free
(11:14.86) in NWC-best times in a loss to Linfield. She also placed
fourth in the 100 free (59.73).
Honorable Mention: Kristen Satterfield (Whitworth) won the 200 free
(1:58.79) and 100 free (54.92) in a loss to CWU and won the 50 free
(26.51) and took second in the 100 back (1:07.64) at Whitman; Amber
Mazeika (PLU) won the 200 free (2:03.81) and 500 free (5:38.89) and
took second in the 100 free (58.03) at L&C; Liz Kwan (Lewis
& Clark) won the 100 breaststroke (1:18.68) and the 100 fly
(time N/A) vs. PLU.
Nov. 10
Men's Swimmer of the Week: Kevin Wang
(Whitworth, Jr., Redmond, Wash.) led the Pirates to a pair of NWC
wins by winning all five of his individual events. He won the 500
(4:50.00) and 1,000 (9:48.92) freestyles and 400 I.M. (4:04.24 -
NCAA B mark) vs. Linfield. He won the 100 (49.19) and 200 (1:45.91)
freestyles vs. Lewis & Clark.
Honorable Mention: Keith Jarrett (Whitman) won the 50 freestyle
against both Linfield and Lewis & Clark and the 100 against
L&C.
Women's Swimmer of the Week: Serena Fadel
(Whitworth, So., Boise, Idaho) led the Pirates to a pair of dual
meet victories by winning all four of her individual events. She
won the 400 I.M. (4:48.33) and 200 butterfly (2:18.29) vs. Linfield
and the 200 I.M. (2:13.68) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.64) vs. Lewis
& Clark.
Honorable Mention: Aven Pendleton (Linfield) won the 200
breaststoke (2:31.81) and was on the winning 400 medley relay vs.
Whitworth and won the 100 freestyle (58.62) and was on the winning
200 free relay vs. Whitman. Alexis Jinbo-Doran (Whitman) won the
200 breaststroke and 500 freestyle vs. Linfield and the 200 I.M.
vs. Lewis & Clark.
