2005-06 NWC Swimming Student-Athletes of the Week
Jan. 30
NWC Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Erin Pettersen (Whitman, So., Kirkland, Wash. -
Lakeside School) had a perfect weekend, winning all three of her
individual races and swimming on three winning relays. She won the
100 Butterfly (1:01.52) against UPS, and the 50 Free (26.07) and
200 Fly (2:17.30) against Pacific. She was part of the winning 200
Medley (1:56.34) and 200 Freestyle (1:44.92) relays against UPS and
the 400 Freestyle (4:01.91) relay against Pacific.
Honorable Mention: Jane Kestner (UPS, Fr.); Andrea Thomas
(Linfield, Jr.); Kate Kuhn (PLU, So.); Hailee Barnes (L&C,
Fr.).
NWC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Kevin Caple (Linfield, So., Centennial, Colo. -
Heritage HS) was undefeated in four individual events over the
weekend. He won the 200 Individual Medley (2:04.07) and 200
Backstroke (2:09.91) against Willamette, then won the 400 I.M.
(4:34.21) and 100 Butterfly (55.96) against PLU.
Honorable Mention: Bret Schluederberg (UPS, Fr.); Ysbrand Nusse
(Whitman, Fr.); Owen Kenton (L&C, So.); Daniel Seetin (PLU,
Sr.).
Jan. 23
NWC Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Erin Pettersen (Whitman, So., Kirkland, Wash. -
Lakeside School) led the Missionaries to their first dual meet
victory over Whitworth since the 1988-89 season by winning her only
individual race (100 Butterfly in 1:01.66) and leading the 200
Medley (1:56.22) and 200 Freestyle (1:44.21) relays to wins.
Honorable Mention: Laura Brade (PLU, So.); Alexis Knepp (Linfield,
Sr.); Lindsay Nixon (L&C); Alex Prigge (Pacific, Fr.); Bridget
Southerland (Willamette).
NWC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Loren Killgore (Whitworth, Sr., Corbett, Ore. -
Barlow HS) led the Pirates to a dual meet win over Whitman and a
second place finish at the Seattle Univ./UCSC tri-meet. He won the
400 I.M. (4:18.97) and 100 Back (56.12) against Whitman. He won the
200 Back (2:00.36) and 400 I.M. (4:12.47) against Seattle. He was
also third in the 200 Free at Seattle, but swam the second fastest
time in the NWC this season (1:46.13).
Honorable Mention: Daniel Seetin (PLU, Sr.,); Kei Otawa
(Willamette, Sr.); Evan Shute (Pacific, Sr.).
Jan. 16
NWC Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Koy Collier (L&C, Fr., Wailuku, Hawaii - Maui
HS) led the Pioneers to a pair of dual meet victories. She won the
50 Freestyle (26.52) and 100 Fly (1:06.35) against Cal State East
Bay. She won the 1,000 Freestyle (11:08.43) and 500 Freestyle
(5:24.82) against Linfield. Her 1,000 time is the second fastest in
the NWC this season.
Honorable Mention: Brittany Gresset (Whitworth, Fr.); Shannon Gima
(Willamette, So.); Rose Hollingsworth (Linfield, Fr.); Alex Prigge
(Pacific, Fr.).
NWC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: David Dolphay (Whitworth, So., Great Falls, Mont. -
Great Falls HS) led the Pirates to a dual meet win over Willamette
with a pair of distance freestyle victories. His time of 4:46.58 in
the 500 Free is the fastest in the NWC this season. He also won the
1,650 Free in 16:42.18.
Honorable Mention: Andy Stetzler (PLU, Fr.); Justin Lawton
(L&C, So.); Kei Otawa (Willamette, Jr.); Kevin Caple (Linfield,
So.); Ysbrand Nusse (Whitman, Fr.).
Jan. 9
NWC Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Katelyn Erickson (Whitworth, So., Austin, Texas -
Anderson HS) led the Pirates to a dual meet win over PLU. She won
the 200 I.M. with a season-best time of 2:18.35 and won the 100
Backstroke in 1:01.93. She also swam on the 200 Freestyle Relay
that finished in 1:43.18.
Honorable Mention: Ashlynn Owen (PLU, Fr.).
NWC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Loren Killgore (Whitworth, Sr., Corbett, Ore. -
Barlow HS) led the Pirates past PLU by winning three individual
events. He won the 100 Fly in a season best 54.64 and also won the
200 Free (1:48.55) and 500 Free (4:58.20).
Honorable Mention: Andy Stetzler (PLU, Fr.).
Dec. 5
NWC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Kevin Caple (Linfield, So., Centennial, Colo. -
Heritage) was the outstanding men's swimmer at the Northwest
Invitational after winning the 200 I.M. (2:01.35), the 200 Free
(1:45.72) and the 200 Back (2:02.08). The winning time in the 200
Free is the best in the NWC this season. He also led the Wildcats
to wins in three relays.
Honorable Mention: Justin Lawton (L&C, So.); Andy Stetzler
(PLU, Fr.); Steve Garka (Whitworth, Fr.).
NWC Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Samantha Kephart (Whitworth, So., Santa Maria,
Calif. - St. Joseph) reached championship finals in the 100 (57.37,
56.89 prelims) and 200 Butterfly (2:04.61, 2:03.84 prelims) against
NCAA competition at the Husky Invitational. Her prelim times in
those two events, along with her prelim time in the 500 Free
(5:05.06) are the best in the NWC this season and are all NCAA
Automatic Qualifying times.
Honorable Mention: Lindsay Nixon (L&C, Fr.); Alexis Jinbo-Doran
(Whitman, Sr.); Ashlynn Owen (PLU, Fr.); Becca Fischer (Willamette,
Jr.).
Nov. 21
NWC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week: No nominees.
NWC Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Lindsay Nixon (L&C, Fr., Chino Hills, Calif. -
Ayala) led the Pioneers to a dual win over PLU by winning the 200
I.M. (2:14.35) and 200 Breaststroke (2:36.15). She was also part of
the winning 400 Medley Relay (4:15.52).
Honorable Mention: No other nominees.
Nov. 14
NWC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Eric Swinn (Willamette, Sr., Roseburg, Ore.) won
five of six individual events in which he competed at the Mills Bay
Area Invitational. He won the 100 Back (52.29 - NCAA B), 100 Fly
(53.91), 100 Free (49.46), 50 Back (28.60), and 50 Fly (24.38). He
was second in the 200 Back (2:03.07).
Honorable Mention: David Lillard (Whitworth, Sr.); Daniel Seetin
(PLU, Sr.); Evan Shute (Pacific, Sr.); Clint Collier (Whitman).
NWC Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the
Week: Samantha Kephart (Whitworth, So., Santa Maria,
Calif. - St. Joseph) won four individual events, earning NCAA
qualifying times in all four. She won the 100 Fly (58.03) and 500
Free (5:07.79) on Friday. She won the 50 Free (24.64) and 200 Fly
(2:03.78) on Saturday.
Honorable Mention: Lindsay Nixon (L&C, Fr.); Becca Fischer
(Willamette, Jr.); Tara Johnson (PLU, So.); Nancy Alexander
(Whitman).
