NWC Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 28 - Dec. 4, 2011

Mering made the championship finals (top 8) in three events, placing 4th, 5th and 8th while posting national championship provisional qualifying times in all three events and breaking Whitman school records in all three cases. He nearly advanced to the evening finals (top 32) in the 100-yard backstroke, posting the 36th best time in the morning prelims. While Whitman did not have its normal roster of relay swimmers at the meet, Mering swam in all five relays, helping Whitman place as high as 17th in the 400 medley.
