2008 NWC Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week
April 14
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Ben Dillow
(George Fox, Sr., Newberg, Ore. - Cedar Park Christian) came from
behind to win the NWC decathlon with an NCAA automatic qualifying
score of 4,716 points. He won the 1,500 (final event) in
4:19.09.
Honorable Mention: Isaac Moog (PLU, Fr., sprints); Josh Lovell
(Linfield, So., Decathlon).
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Lakia
Arceneaux (PLU, Fr., Puyallup, Wash. - Emerald Ridge) won the 100
dash (12.76) and placed second in the 200 (26.22) at the PLU
Invitational.
Honorable Mention: Terah Laack (George Fox, Sr., heptathlon); Casey
Stepan (Linfield, Sr., 800).
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Carson
Bartlett (Pacific, Fr., St. Helens, Ore. - St. Helens) improved his
NCAA qualifying mark in the triple jump by winning the event at the
L&C Invitational (46'-6.5") and also finished second in the
high jump (6'-5").
Honorable Mention: Ben Spaun (Whitworth, Sr., decathlon); Ben
Burgess (George Fox, Jr., throws).
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Melinda
Fahey (Willamette, Sr., Salem, Ore. - McKay) won the hammer at the
L&C Invite in an NCAA provisional mark of 162'-4" and was third
in the discus (136'-1"), missing the NCAA provisional mark by one
inch.
Honorable Mention: Taylor Hacker (PLU, Jr., throws); Kristen
Dormaier (Whitworth, Sr., heptathlon, TJ); Risa Allen (Pacific,
Jr., jumps); Sarah Curry (George Fox, Fr., PV).
April 7
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Ian Batch
(Willamette, Jr., Eagle, Idaho) ran the 5,000 in 14:31.79 at the
Willamette Invite, finishing second overall (top college runner)
and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA championships.
Honorable Mention: Mat Strum (Linfield, Jr., 400); Adrian Shipley
(Pacific, Jr., 10k); Garrett Blizzard (George Fox, Jr., 400).
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Jena Winger
(Willamette, Jr., Bonney Lake, Wash. - Sumner) earned an NCAA
provisional qualifying mark in the 5,000 with a time of 17:21.59,
the top time in the NWC this season, at the Willamette
Invitational.
Honorable Mention: Kelsey Owens (Pacific, Jr., 5k); Caitlin McGrane
(UPS, So., 100h); Lisa Mensonides (George Fox, Jr., 400h).
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Carson
Bartlett (Pacific, Fr., St. Helens, Ore. - St. Helens) posted NCAA
provisional qualifying marks in both the triple jump (46'-3.25")
and long jump (22'-11.75"), setting NWC bests in both events this
season.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Kintner (Whitworth, So., throws); Isaac
Moog (PLU, Fr., jumps); Greg Bailey (UPS, Jr., throws); Jake Weber
(George Fox, Fr., jumps).
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Risa Allen
(Pacific, Jr., Portland, Ore. - UPS) established a new NWC best in
the triple jump and broke her own school record with a distance of
35'-10" at the Willamette Invite.
Honorable Mention: Taylor Hacker (PLU, Jr., throws); Sarah Curry
(George Fox, Fr., PV).
March 31
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Josh Lovell
(Linfield, So., Vancouver, Wash. - Columbia River) earned an NCAA
provisional qualifying score in the decathlon (6,407 points) at the
Linfield Multi Event Invite, winning the 100 (11.34) and 400 dash
(51.08).
Honorable Mention: John Zaganiacz (George Fox, So.,
sprints/hurdles).
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Lisa
Mensonides (George Fox, Jr., Tacoma, Wash. - Tacoma Baptist) earned
an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400 hurdles (1:02.84) at
the PLNU Collegiate Invite and anchored the Bruins to a time of
4:00.72 in the 4x400 relay, the NWC's best time this season.
Honorable Mention: Laura Sibley (Linfield, Jr., Hept).
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Ben Dillow
(George Fox, Sr., Newberg, Ore. - Cedar Park Christian) posted the
NWC's best pole vault (14'-6") at the PLNU Collegiate, and also
long jumped 21'-1.25".

Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Katie Alaimo
(George Fox, Sr., The Dalles, Ore. - The Dalles) cleared 5'-4" in
the high jump at the Westmont Retro dual meet, the best mark in the
NWC this season, and also triple jumped 31'-4.5".

Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Emmanuel Bofa
(Whitworth, So., Puyallup, Wash. - Emerald Ridge) won the 800 meter
run at the Point Loma Invite with an NCAA automatic qualifying time
of 1:51.01, setting a new school record.
Honorable Mention: John Zaganiacz (George Fox, So., hurdles).
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Melissa
Leighty (George Fox, Fr., Canby, Ore. - Canby) provisionally
qualified for the NCAA championships in the heptathlon with a score
of 4,170, setting best times in the NWC in the 100 hurdles (15.18)
and 200 (26.02).
Honorable Mention: Elizabeth Mattila (Whitworth, Fr., hurdles);
Kelsey Owens (Pacific, Jr., mid-distance); Brittany Hodgson (UPS,
Sr., steeplechase); Faven Araya (PLU, Jr., hurdles).

decathlon with an NCAA qualifying score of 6,920 points. His pole
vault height of 13'-10.75" is the best in the NWC to date.

(Pacific, Jr., shot put).
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Risa Allen
(Pacific, Jr., Portland, Ore. - UPS) hit the NWC's best mark to
date in the triple jump with a distance of 35'-4" at the Oregon
Preview.
Honorable Mention: Cindy Walsh (George Fox, So., long jump); Taylor
Hacker (PLU, Jr., throws); Kristen Dormaier (Whitworth, Sr.,
jumps).
March 17
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Kyle Kotaich
(Willamette, So., Florence, Ore. - Siuslaw) posted the NWC's
fastest 800 meter run time this season with a 1:55.48 at the
WOU-SOU at Willamette meet, finishing second in the event.
Honorable Mention: Nick Gallagher (Whitworth, Fr., 5,000); Ryan
Forbes (George Fox, Jr., sprints); Adrian Shipley (Pacific, 5,000).
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Jenna Winger
(Willamette, Jr. Bonney Lake, Wash. - Sumner) won the 3,000 meter
steeplechase in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:51.06 and
setting a new school record.
Honorable Mention: Kelsey Owens (Pacific, Jr., mid-distance);
JulieKay Brown (George Fox, Sr., 400).
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Grant Piros
(Willamette, Jr., Newberg, Ore. - Newberg) threw the javelin
200'-4" in the decathlon, earning an NCAA DIII provisional
qualifying mark. He won the decathlon with a score of 5,958
points.
Honorable Mention: Carson Bartlett (Pacific, Fr., jumps); Joel
Krebs (George Fox, Jr., Jav).
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Brooke Smith
(Willamette, Jr., Idleyld Park, Ore. - Glide) won the heptathlon
with a score of 4,068 points, missing the NCAA provisional mark by
just 32 points.
Honorable Mention: Sierra Whitehill (George Fox, Fr., TJ); Corey
Dugan (Whitworth, Fr., LJ); Angie Miller (Pacific, Fr., jumps).
March 10
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Emmanuel Bofa
(Whitworth, So., Puyallup, Wash. - Emerald Ridge) won the 400 dash
at the CC of Spokane Mini Meet in 49.72, then anchored the winning
4x400 relay to a time of 3:20.94.
Honorable Mention: Merben Woo (Willamette, Jr., sprints, hurdles);
Shawn Fisher (Linfield, So., mid-distance); Nate Dillow (GFU, Fr.,
hurdles); Reggie Torres (Pacific, Jr., sprints)
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Faven Araya
(PLU, Jr., Portland, Ore. - Portland Lutheran) won the 400 hurdles
at the Peyton Invite with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of
1:03.90. She also ran the 100 hurdles (15.83) and was part of the
Lutes' 4x100 relay (49.78).
Honorable Mention: Kelsey Owens (Pacific, Jr., mid-distance);
Elizabeth Matilla (Whitworth, Fr., sprints, hurdles); Mollie Honan
(George Fox, Jr., sprints, hurdles); Jordyn Smith (Willamette, Sr.,
1,500); Marci Klimek (Linfield, So., distance).
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Josh Lovell
(Linfield, So., Vancouver, Wash. - Columbia River) won the long
jump at the Pacific 4-way with a career-best mark of 23'-4", the
fifth best mark in school history, then won the high jump
(6'-2.75") and the javelin (170'-4").
Honorable Mention: Jeff Kintner (Whitworth, So., throws); Jacob
Monroe (Willamette, Jr., throws); Ben Dillow (George Fox, Sr.,
PVdiscus); Bobby Larkins (Pacific, Jr., throws).
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Taylor
Hacker (PLU, Jr., Gig Harbor, Wash. - Gig Harbor) set a Baker
Stadium record and earned a strong provisional qualifying mark in
the hammer with a winning throw of 167'-10". She also finished 2nd
in the shot put (37'-11.5") and tossed the discus (93'-11").

Elizabeth Andrews (Willamette, So., PV).
March 3
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Darrell
Stewart (UPS, Jr., Long Beach, Calif. - Loyola) won both the 100
dash (11.35) and 200 dash (22.89) and was part of the winning 4x100
relay (44.18) for the Loggers at their meet with Lewis & Clark
and Seattle Pacific.
Honorable Mention: Merben Woo (Willamette, Jr., sprints); Shawn
Pollard (Linfield, Sr., 10k); Ben Spaun (Whitworth, Sr., hurdles);
Adrian Shipley (Pacific, Jr., 5k); Grant Finney (George Fox, Sr.,
10k).
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Carley
Killam (Willamette, Sr., Kailua, Hawaii - Punahou) earned an NCAA
provisional qualifying time in the 1,500 (4:39.31) at the
Willamette Opener, finishing second only to a runner from Oregon
State.
Honorable Mention: Janece Levien (UPS, Jr., sprints); Elizabeth
Matilla (Whitworth, Fr., hurdles); Marci Klimek (Linfield, So.,
10k); Melissa Leighty (George Fox, Fr., hurdles, sprints); Faven
Araya (PLU, Jr., sprints); Kelsey Owens (Pacific, Jr., 5k).
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Cody Stelzer
(Whitworth, So., The Dalles, Ore. - The Dalles) won the high jump
at the Willamette Opener with a mark of 6'-8.75", beating the NCAA
provisional qualifying standard.
Honorable Mention: Jacob Monroe (Willamette, Jr., throws); Greg
Bailey (UPS, Jr., throws); Dakari Kongela (George Fox, So., TJ);
Bobby Rudel (Linfield, Jr., throws); Bobby Larkins (Pacific, Jr.,

Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Melinda
Fahey (Willamette, Sr., Salem, Ore. - McKay) won the hammer throw
with an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 153'-7" and also
won the discus (132'-6") at the Willamette Opener.
