2002-03 NWC Women's Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week
Feb. 23
Co-NWC Players of the Week: Kellie Thomas
(George Fox, Fr., W, Medford, Ore.) led the Bruins to a pair of
wins with 36 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists;
Tori Nelson (Pacific, Jr., G, Mossyrock, Wash.) also led the Boxers
to two victories with 36 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Honorable Mention: Tiffany Speer (Whitworth, F) scored 44 points in
two wins; Allison McCurdy (Puget Sound, G) totaled 30 points and
six steals in two wins; Nnenna Lewis (Lewis & Clark, F) had 35
points and 22 rebounds in two losses; Kelly Turner (Pacific
Lutheran, W) scored 31 points in two games; Heidi Jurgens
(Linfield, G) finished with 48 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds
in three losses; Megan Higgins (Whitman, G) had 27 points and seven
rebounds in two games.
Feb. 16
NWC Player of the Week: Lucy Wilson (Puget
Sound, Sr., P, Republic, Wash.) led the Loggers to a pair of wins
by making 55% of her shots for 32 points and adding 17 rebounds and
six assists.
Honorable Mention: Heidi Jurgens (Linfield, G) had 19 points, five
steals and four assists in two wins; Darby Cave (George Fox, P)
totaled 23 points and 16 rebounds in a road split; Micki DesMarais
(Whitworth, G) scored 28 points in a road split; Mary Lindberg
(Pacific, F) finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds in two losses;
Megan Higgins (Whitman, G) had 27 points, six assists and five
rebounds in a pair of losses.
Feb. 9
NWC Player of the Week: Tiffany Speer
(Whitworth, So., F, Snohomish, Wash.) led the Pirates to a pair of
key wins by scoring 37 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and adding six
steals.
Honorable Mention: Mary Lindberg (Pacific, F) scored 20 points in a
win over George Fox; Shae Wright (Linfield, F) tallied 26 points,
15 rebounds, 8 blocks and four steals in two wins; Kellie Thomas
(George Fox, W) finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and five
assists in two games; Kelly Turner (PLU, W) had 23 points in a road
split; Megan Higgins (Whitman, G) totaled 22 points and six assists
in to home losses.
Feb. 2
NWC Player of the Week: Lindsey May (Puget
Sound, So., F, Richland, Wash.) led the Loggers to a pair of wins
by making 75% (18/24) of her field goal attempts and totaling 42
points (including a career-high 24 vs. L&C), 12 rebounds and
six assists.
Honorable Mention: Courtney Johnson (PLU, P) had 26 points, 17
rebounds and 14 blocks in two Lute victories; Chrissy Oneal
(Whitworth, P) totaled 30 points and 11 rebounds in two Pirate
wins; Megan Higgins (Whitman, G) led the Missionaries to two
victories with 26 points, nine rebounds and nine assists; Kristine
Callan (Pacific, G) scored 24 points off of the bench in a pair of
losses; Heidi Jurgens (Linfield, G) had 12 points and four rebounds
in a loss.
Jan. 26
Co-NWC Players of the Week: Tiffany Speer
(Whitworth, So., F, Snohomish, Wash.) led the Bucs to their fourth
and fifth straight wins by scoring 42 points (57% shooting),
grabbing 14 rebounds and adding seven assists and four steals;
Courtney Johnson (PLU, Jr., C, E. Wenatchee, Wash.) led the Lutes
to a pair of wins with 29 points, 17 rebounds and nine blocked
shots.
Honorable Mention: Allison McCurdy (UPS, G) had 29 points, 11
rebounds, six assists and six steals in two games; Heidi Jurgens
(Linfield, G) totaled 34 points, nine assists and eight rebounds as
the Wildcats went 1-2; Lindsey Sweetland (L&C, F) finished with
21 points and 14 rebounds in two games; Miryia Libby (Whitman, W)
had 21 points and four assists in two losses.
Jan. 19
NWC Player of the Week: Tiffany Speer
(Whitworth, So., F, Snohomish, Wash.) led the Pirates to a pair of
wins by making 72.7% (16/22) of her shots, scoring 39 points and
adding 13 rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Honorable Mention: Lucy Wilson (UPS, F) scored 28 points and
grabbed 19 rebounds in a pair of road wins; Miryia Libby (Whitman,
W) totaled 32 points (including six three-pointers) and nine
rebounds in two wins; Nnenna Lewis (L&C, F) finished with 16
points, nine rebounds and three blocks in a loss to Fox.
Jan. 12
NWC Player of the Week: Courtney Johnson
(Pacific Lutheran, Jr., P, East Wenatchee, Wash.) led the Lutes to
a pair of wins by scoring 22 points, grabbing 33 rebounds and
blocking 12 shots.
Honorable Mention: Monica Schwing (Linfield, C) totaled 25 points
and 15 rebounds in two Wildcat victories; Allison McCurdy (UPS, G)
had 36 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists as the Loggers went 1-1;
Sarah Shogren (Whitworth, F) finished with 29 points and 16
rebounds as the Pirates split a pair; Mary Lindberg (Pacific, F)
totaled 25 points and 13 rebounds in two games.
Jan. 5
NWC Player of the Week: Simmie Muth
(Willamette, Jr., G, Coos Bay, Ore.) scored 50 points and added 11
rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals as the Bearcats won two of
three games.
Honorable Mention: Sarah Shogren (Whitworth, F) scored 48 points
and grabbed 29 rebounds as the Pirates lost two of three; Darby
Cave (George Fox, P) scored 47 points and grabbed 24 rebounds as
the Bruins went 1-2; Lindsey May (UPS, F) totaled 45 points and 32
rebounds as the Loggers lost three of four games; DeeDee Arnall
(Pacific, P) had 24 points and nine rebounds as the Boxers split
two games; Miryia Libby scored 23 points as the Missionaries split
a pair of games.
Dec. 26
NWC Player of the Week: Nneena Lewis (Lewis & Clark, Sr., F, Portland, Ore.) scored 24 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and added three blocks and three steals as the Pioneers avenged an early season loss with a win over Evergreen State.
Dec. 15
NWC Player of the Week: Courtney Johnson (PLU,
Jr., P, East Wenatchee, Wash.) led the Lutes to a pair of wins in
Oregon by scoring 31 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and blocking nine
shots.
Honorable Mention: Kellie Thomas (George Fox, W) scored 19 points
in a loss to Seattle; Chrissy Oneal (Whitworth, P) scored 21 points
and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Pirates went 1-1; Megan Higgins
(Whitman, G) scored 15 points in a loss to Biola at LCSC; Shae
Wright (Linfield, C) totaled 15 points and 16 rebounds as the
Wildcats went 1-1.
Dec. 8
NWC Player of the Week: Tiffany Speer
(Whitworth, So., F, Snohomish, Wash.) led the Pirates to a pair of
wins by scoring 44 points, grabbing 21 rebounds and adding 12
assists and five steals.
Honorable Mention: Lindsay May (Puget Sound, P) led the Loggers to
a 3-0 week by totaling 53 points, 18 rebounds and six steals;
Miryia Libbey (Whitman, F) scored 39 points as the Missionaries
split a pair of games; Rosie Contri (Willamette, G) had 31 points,
17 rebounds and five assists in two wins; Amy Fitch (George Fox, W)
scored 17 points and added seven boards in a win; Hilary Berg
(Pacific Lutheran, P) totaled 16 points and seven rebounds in a
win; Shae Wright (Linfield, F) finished with 21 points and 16
rebounds as the Wildcats went 1-1.
Dec. 1
NWC Player of the Week: Tiffany Speer
(Whitworth, So., F, Snohomish, Wash.) led the Pirates to the
championship of the Southwestern (Texas) Invitational, including an
upset of 15th-ranked Eastern Connecticut State, by scoring 35
points and adding 13 rebounds, seven assists and four steals,
earning tournament MVP.
Honorable Mention: Darby Cave (George Fox, P) led the Bruins to a
3-0 week by totaling 43 points and 20 rebounds; Lucy Wilson (Puget
Sound, W) led the Loggers past Evergreen with 15 points, six
rebounds and four steals.
Nov. 24
NWC Player of the Week: Kilty Keaton (Puget
Sound, Fr., G, Sumner, Wash.) was named the MVP of the Logger
Tip-off Classic after scoring 49 points (shooting 57.6% from the
field) and adding seven rebounds and seven steals in two wins.
Honorable Mention: Anna Sticklin (PLU, W) scored 18 points and
grabbed seven rebounds in a win at Northwest; Megan Higgins
(Whitman, PG) scored 35 points and dished 14 assists in a split at
CWU; Shae Wright (Linfield, P) scored 26 points and was named to
the All-Classic team at UPS; Chrissy Oneal (Whitworth, P) scored 30
points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Pirates split at Carroll.
