Northwest Conference Runners of the Week

Oct. 20

Co-NWC Men's Runners of the Week: Aaron Young (Willamette, Jr., Coos Bay, Ore.) placed 2nd out of 95 runners at the Willamette Open, leading the Bearcats to the team title and covering the 6.4 kilometer course in 19:34.41; Dan McLean (Puget Sound, Jr., Seattle, Wash.) placed 2nd out of 50 runners at the Lewis & Clark Pioneer Open, leading the Loggers to the team title and covering the 8 kilometer course in 26:07.5.
Honorable Mention: Braden Burkholder (Whitman) was the first men's NWC finisher at the Big Foot Invite, placing 13th in the 8 kilometer race in 26:49.2.

Co-NWC Women's Runners of the Week: Leslie Nelson (Whitworth, Jr., Omak, Wash.) won her fourth meet of the season at the Big Foot Invitational, defeating 96 other runners and covering the 5 kilometer course in 18:59.7. She led the Pirates to a second place finish; Sadie Grossman (L&C, Jr., Wilmot, N.H.) won the Pioneer Open, defeating 36 runners and covering the 6 kilometer course in 22:53.7.
Honorable Mention: Breea DeSloover (PLU) finished 3rd at the Pioneer Open (23:09.1); Sierra Witnov (Whitman) placed 5th at the Big Foot Invite (19:13.6); Janelle Goeres (George Fox) placed 7th at the Willamette Open (18:48.36); Amber Emory (Willamette) placed 11th at the Willamette Open (18:57.27).

Oct. 13

NWC Men's Runner of the Week: Floyd Bangerter (PLU, Sr., Brier, Wash.) won the PLU Invitational, defeating 168 other runners and covering the 8 kilometer course in 25:08.1.
Honorable Mention: JR Floweree (UPS) placed 6th at the PLU invite in 25:28.8; Ben Robinson (Whitworth) placed 16th at the PLU meet in 25:55.2, leading the Pirates to an NWC-best 5th place.

NWC Women's Runner of the Week: Leslie Nelson (Whitworth, Jr., Omak, Wash.) led the Pirates to the team championship at the PLU Invitational while placing 3rd out of 132 runners. She covered the six kilometer course in 21:58.3.
Honorable Mention: Sadie Grossman (L&C) was 5th at the PLU Invite, finishing in 22:11.8; Kira Seifert (Linfield) placed 12th (22:45.3); Tracy Goldner (PLU) finished 14th (22:49.7).

Oct. 6

NWC Men's Runner of the Week: Aaron Young (Willamette, Jr., Coos Bay, Ore.) placed 2nd out of 366 finishers at the Willamette Invitational, covering the 8 kilometers in 24:24.31, helping the Bearcats to a 3rd place finish (of 40 teams).

NWC Women's Runner of the Week: Kari Holbert (Willamette, So., Gresham, Ore.) placed 11th out of 319 finishers at the Willamette Invitational, running the 5 kilometer race in 18:14.07, leading the Bearcats to an 8th places finish (of 35 teams).

Sept. 29

NWC Men's Runner of the Week: Jesse Stevick (Whitworth, Jr., Olympia, Wash.) placed 8th out of 54 runners at the Pasco Big Cross Invitational, covering the 8 kilometer course in 27:17 and leading the Pirates to a second place finish behind NAIA #2 EOU.
Honorable Mention: Ben Zieger (Willamette) placed 12th of 32 runners at the WOU Invitational (20:34.21).

NWC Women's Runner of the Week: Leslie Nelson (Whitworth, Jr., Omak, Wash.) won the Pasco Big Cross Invitational, defeating 51 other runners on the 5 kilometer course by running 19:17. She defeated all runners from NAIA #2 Northwest and led the Pirates to a second place team finish.
Honorable Mention: Sierra Witnov (Whitman) finished 5th at the Big Cross (19:44); Janelle Goeres (George Fox) finished 3rd at the WOU Invite, running the 4k course in 15:27.65; Stephanie Vandehey (Willamette) placed 5th at WOU (15:48.12); Terry Hall (Linfield) placed ninth in Alaska, completing the 5k race in 19:58.06.

Sept. 22

NWC Men's Runner of the Week: Jake Stout (Willamette, Jr., Portland, Ore.) placed 2nd out of 248 finishers in the open division of the Sundodger Invitational, covering the 8 kilometer course in 24:37.0.
Honorable Mention: Floyd Bangerter (PLU) finished 12th at Sundodger in 25:17.4; Michael Owen (George Fox) finished 3rd at the Bruins' Bear Fete Invitational in 21:22.86; Anthony Cook (Linfield) placed 11th at the GFU Bear Fete Invite in 22:44.19.

NWC Women's Runner of the Week: Leslie Nelson (Whitworth, Jr., Omak, Wash.) was the top NWC finisher at the Sundodger Invitational, finishing 18th in the open division and running the 5 kilometer course in 18:26.0.
Honorable Mention: Sadie Grossmen (L&C) finished 23rd at Sundodger in 18:37.0; Sierra Witnov (Whitman) was 24th at the Sundodger Meet (18:41); Terry Hall (Linfield) was the top NWC finisher at the Bear Fete Invite, finishing 4th in 15:21.7; Janelle Goeres (George Fox) finished 5th at the Bear Fete (15:23.42).

Sept. 15

NWC Men's Runner of the Week: Nick Symonds (Willamette, Fr., Boise, Idaho) placed third out of 42 runners (mostly Division I) at the Pier Park Invite (hosted by Univ. of Portland), covering the 7.6 kilometers in 24:49.
Honorable Mention: Nick Wetzler (L&C) was the top NWC finisher at the L&C Invite, running the 8k in 26:49.6.

NWC Women's Runner of the Week: Leslie Nelson (Whitworth, Jr., Omak, Wash.) won the women's race at the Pirate-Sasquatch Invitational, covering the 5 kilometers in 20:23.70.
Honorable Mention: Sadie Grossman (L&C) finished 4th at the L&C Invite (23:05.1 - 6k); Kari Holbert (Willamette) took 8th at the Pier Park Invite (19:47 - 5k); Kira Siefert (Linfield) was sixth at the L&C meet (23:36.4); Sierra Witnov (Whitman) was 9th at L&C (23:43.4); Janelle Goeres (George Fox) was 11th at L&C (23:59.4).

Sept. 8

NWC Men's Runner of the Week: Carl Hoogesteger (Pacific, Sr., Gold Beach, Ore.) finished 6th at the Boxer Rebellion in a time of 26:09.01.
Honorable Mention: Dan McLean (UPS) finished 8th at the Emerald City Invite, leading the Loggers to a second place finish; Anthony Cook (Linfield) placed 21st at the Boxer Rebellion.

NWC Women's Runner of the Week: Kira Seifert (Linfield, Sr., Gooding, Idaho) was the second NWC finisher and placed 4th overall at the Pacific Boxer Rebellion in a time of 19:21.44.
Honorable Mention: Leslie Nelson (Whitworth) placed 11th at the University of Idaho Invitational (15:31.00); Dace Samta (Pacific) placed 8th at the Boxer Rebellion (19:38.26).
