Softball Position Student-Athlete of the Week – M 27-A 2, 2017



Senior, Infield, Olympia, Wash. / Yelm HS


In a week in which the Pirates played 25% of their season due to weather makeups, Matthews played a huge role in the Pirates' 10-0 week. She batted .469 (15-32), drove in 11 runs and scored six times. She had at least one hit in nine of the ten games and five multi-hit games, going 2-4 and 3-3 in 15-1 and 6-4 wins over Pacific, and 2-4, 2-3, and 2-4 in consecutive 7-4, 10-0, and 7-6 wins over Puget Sound.  She had two and three-RBI games vs. Pacific, and drove in three in the final UPS game.  She also had three walks, a .500 on base percentage, and slugged .531.  The Pirates’ starting shortstop, she had only two errors in 41 defensive chances.
