HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Northwest Conference is proud to announce its Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 14th.
Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week – Makana Stone, Whitman (Jr., F)
Stone (Coupeville, Wash.) guided her team to three road wins, the last against previously undefeated George Fox. The junior recorded double-doubles in all three games, with a week-best performance at Whitworth where she posted 21 points and 17 rebounds.
Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week – Joey Hewitt, Whitman (Sr., G)
Hewitt (Lafayette, Calif.) guided his team to a 3-0 week, all on the road against previously undefeated teams entering the week. The senior recorded double figures in points in all three games including a 21-point effort at George Fox.
Women’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week – Cameron Lyon, Whitworth (Fr.)
Lyon (Kailua, Hawaii) led the Whitworth women with individual event victories in the 200 butterfly and 500 free in a victory over Puget Sound, and in the 1650 free and 500 free against Pacific Lutheran. She was also part of the winning 400 medley relay against the Loggers.
Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week – Ryan Grady, Whitworth (So.)
Grady (Gig Harbor, Wash.) won four of five individual events in a conference dual meet sweep of Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran. He posted wins in the 200 Free with a time of 1:45.05 and the 400 individual medley with a 4:16.90 on Saturday. He also swam the breaststroke leg on the winning 400 medley relay against Puget Sound.
