HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Northwest Conference is proud to announce Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 25th.
Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week – Andrew Kibbee, Willamette (Fr.)
Kibbee (Kenmore, Wash.) earned his first individual collegiate tournament win by shooting a 36-hole total of 144 at the Pacific Spring Invitational. He shot 69-75. His 69 tied for the low round of the tournament. Kibbee led Willamette to the team title, as the Bearcats shot 286-296-582 to win by 34 strokes.
Women’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week – Lexi Towner, Willamette (Jr.)
Towner (Chico, Calif.) improved by 9 strokes in the second round to tie for 6th place at the Pacific Spring Invitational. She also tied for the top finish by an NWC athlete as the University of of Victoria (B.C.) took the top 5 spots. Towner shot 90-81-171.
Baseball Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week – Justin Armbruester, Pacific Lutheran (So., P)
Armbruester (Sammamish, Wash.) racked up 12 strikeouts and allowed no earned runs in eight innings of work in the Lutes' 3-1 victory over George Fox to open NWC play.
Baseball Position Student-Athlete of the Week – Connor Bailey, Willamette (Sr., OF)
Bailey (San Diego, Calif.) batted .583 during the week with a 1.333 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. He was 7 for 12 at the plate, scored 8 runs and earned 6 RBIs. He belted 1 double, 1 triple and 2 home runs. He also walked 3 times with no strikeouts. He was 3 for 3 on stolen bases on offense and made 7 putouts with no errors on defense. Bailey recorded 2 or more hits in all 3 games. In the first game at Puget Sound, he was 3 for 3 (1B, 3B, HR) with 5 runs and 5 RBIs
Softball Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week – Shelby Saylors, Linfield (Sr., P)
Saylors (Rainier, Ore.) helped lead the Wildcats to a tie against Pomona-Pitzer and a 10-1 win and seven strikeouts against Occidental on their trip to California. She has the lowest era on the team with a 1.83.
Softball Position Student-Athlete of the Week – Makenna Clizer, Linfield (Jr., MI)
Clizer (Portland, Ore.) led the Wildcats with a .538 average, collected 10 RBIs, two home runs, one double, and two walks. She currently holds a 1.077 slugging percentage and a .563 on base percentage. So far this season, she has hit at least .500 in every game.
Men’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week – Michael Campbell, Pacific Lutheran (Fr.)
Campbell (Lacey, Wash.) won all four of his matches over the weekend, recording two singles wins and two doubles wins in the number one position.
Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week – Michelle Uyeda, Linfield (So.)
Uyeda (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) won both of her singles matches for the Wildcats in the number one position at the Whitman Winter Classic. She sophomore also picked up a doubles win in the number one position.
