This week's NWC national and regional rankings

HILLSBORO, Ore. - Several teams in the Northwest Conference rank nationally and regionally in this week's polls.

Volleyball

Pacific Lutheran volleyball climbs two spots from last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national coaches' poll to 10th place, earning a total of 927 points. The Lutes hold a record of 7-1, with their only loss to nationally second-ranked Colorado College. At the Spike It Up Classic in Denver, Colo., the team did not drop a set, sweeping Johnson and Wales (Colo.) and Briar Cliff University. The Lutes walked away with a split at the Colorado Classic, edging the University of Minnesota Morris, 3-2, before falling to #2 Colorado College, 3-0.

What's Next

The Lutes will kick off conference play this Friday as they host Pacific (Ore.).

 

Football

Linfield football ranks 11th in this week's d3football.com national coaches' poll with 162 points, falling five spots from the previous week's sixth-place standing. The team fell late to host Carroll College after a dominant second half by the Wildcats tied the score at 14. A Carroll touchdown with 1:29 remaining in the fourth quarter pushed the Fighting Saints past the Wildcats, 21-14.

What's Next

The team will host Redlands this Saturday in their home opener.

 

Women's Soccer

Pacific Lutheran women's soccer ranks seventh in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III West Region poll. The Lutes are currently 1-1-2 after claiming a victory over visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor, 2-0, and walking away with a tie against visiting Calvin College, 1-1, this past weekend.

Also earning a rank in this week's United Soccer Coaches' West Region poll is Linfield, claiming 10th. The Wildcats currently hold a record of 3-1 and remain undefeated on their home turf. The team claimed two 2-1 victories this past week, first over visiting Northwest University, and again against visiting UC-Santa Cruz before falling to Corban in double overtime, 1-0.

What's Next

The Lutes will face Whitworth at home this Saturday in their first conference matchup of the season. The Wildcats will begin conference play today as they face Willamette on the road.

 

Men's Soccer

Pacific Lutheran men's soccer ranks seventh in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III West Region poll.  The Lutes are currently 4-2, having shut out visiting Brooklyn College this past week, 5-0, before falling in two road contests, first at the University of Redlands, 2-1, and again at Chapman University, 2-1.

Willamette men's soccer sits two spots behind the Lutes in this week's United Soccer Coaches West Region poll with a ninth-place rank. The Bearcats are currently 3-1-1, walking away with two wins and one tie in last week's contests. The team took down UC-Santa Cruz, 3-1, before tying with Albion the following day, 0-0 in double overtime. Two days later, the Bearcats hosted Wisconsin Lutheran, where they took down the Warriors, 4-3, in overtime.

What's Next

Both teams will kick off conference play this Saturday as the Bearcats travel to Tacoma, Wash. to face the Lutes.

 

Women's Cross Country

Whitman ranks fifth in week one of the USTFCCCA West Region poll. The team opened their season at the Clash of the Inland Northwest last Friday, hosted by the University of Idaho at the University of Idaho Golf Course. The team finished in seventh-place overall with a score of 155, while Junior Bryn Carlson (Palo Alto, Calif.) led the Blues with a 25th place finish in the 4-kilometer, crossing the finish line at 15:16.80.

Whitworth sits one spot behind the Blues with a sixth-place rank in the USTFCCCA West Region poll.  The Pirates took eighth-place at the Clash of the Inland Northwest with a score of 164 while Krystal Roberts (Walla Walla, Wash.) was the team leader with a 15:15.40 finish.

Puget Sound ranks eighth in this week's USTFCCCA West Region poll. The Loggers enjoy a weekend off after taking first at the Puget Sound Invitational on September 1st.  Emery Bradlina (Boulder, Colo.) was the individual winner in the 6-kilometer race with a time of 23:41.00.

George Fox ranks one spot behind Puget Sound in ninth in this week's USTFCCCA West Region poll. The Bruins claimed a third-place finish at the Linfield Harrier Classic in McMinnville, Ore. on August 31st. Abigail Bitzenburg (Twin Falls, Idaho) was the individual leader for the Bruins, finishing the 4-kilometer race in 16:16.80 for an 11th-place finish.

All four teams will compete in the Pacific Lutheran Invitational in Tacoma, Wash. this Saturday.

 

Men's Cross Country

Willamette ranks fifth in this week's USTFCCCA West Region poll. The Bearcats finished in second-place at the Ash Creek Invitational in Monmouth, Ore. this past weekend with a team score of 45. Keith Carlson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) took fourth with a 21:14.90 finish in the 7-kilometer, and Michael Montague (San Diego, Calif.) finished in fifth with a 21:33.80.

Whitman claims a 9th place rank in the USTFCCCA West Region after claiming a seventh-place team finish with a score of 193 at the Clash of the Inland Northwest Invitational at the University of Idaho Golf Course. Eli Fournier (Boulder, Colo.) was the leader for the Blues, finishing the 5.75-kilometer in 17:58.40 to claim 22nd.

Whitworth sits one spot behind the Blues, ranking 10th in the USTFCCCA West Region poll. The Pirates ran to an eighth-place finish at the Clash of the Inland Northwest Invitational with a team score of 221. William Glick (Auburn, Wash.) led the team with his 18:38.50 finish in the 5.75-kilometer to finish 43rd.

Whitman and Whitworth will travel to Tacoma, Wash. to compete in the Pacific Lutheran Invitational this Saturday. Willamette will make the trip to Bloomington, Minn. this Saturday for the Augsburg Invitational.
