LOUISVILLE, Ken. --- Linfield College outfielder Melanie Oord was recently named a third team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Oord enjoyed a career season in 2018, leading the Northwest Conference in on-base percentage (.580), walks (23) and hit-by-pitch (16). She also maintained the NWC's second-highest batting average (.457).
Oord helped carry Linfield to a 39-9 overall record that included a share of the Northwest Conference championship, the NWC Tournament title and the NCAA Division III McMinnville Regional crown. The Wildcats came within one victory of advancing to the NCAA Finals.
The senior outfielder wrapped up her four-year career ranked among Linfield's all-time top-10 in several offensive categories. She finished third on the Wildcats' career ladder for on-base percentage (.507), fifth in batting average (.418) and seventh in slugging percentage (.644). She also set the Linfield career mark for the number of times hit by pitch (29).
The NFCA All-America citation is the second of Oord's career. She was second team All-American as a sophomore in 2016.
