Pacific 27, Occidental 6
With the adversity of botched travel plans and injuries to two of their star players, it would have been easy for Pacific to pack it in when it finally came time to take the field Saturday night. 

Cal Lutheran 37, Pacific Lutheran 23
Visiting California Lutheran scored 20 unanswered points to break away from a tie and eventually defeat Pacific Lutheran, 37-23, in the Saturday football season opener for both teams at Sparks Stadium. 

Whitworth 47, Whittier 42
Jake DeGooyer posted career-highs for receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions to help visiting Whitworth hold off Whittier 47-42 in a non-conference football game on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. 

Linfield 49, Hardin-Simmons 35
Quarterback Mickey Inns (Sr., Gresham, Ore.) passed for 309 yards and four touchdowns, and tailback Josh Hill (Sr., Portland, Ore.) piled up 195 all-purpose yards to lead the fifth-ranked Linfield Wildcats past the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys 49-35 in a non-conference game Saturday at Maxwell Field. 

Lewis & Clark 27, Claremont-M-S 24
The Lewis & Clark football team opened the 2012 season with a 27-24 road win over the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. 

Chapman 55, Puget Sound 35
Preseason All-American Adam Kniffin set yet another Puget Sound receiving record on Saturday, but the Puget Sound football team fell 55-35 at Chapman. Kniffin hauled in 12 catches for a school-record 267 yards and four touchdowns in the loss.
