AUSTIN, Texas — George Fox junior Caleb Dazlell and Linfield senior Jake Reimer became the first pair of NWC football players to earn First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in the same year since the 2014 season, after the two earned the nod last week.
Dalzell (Gresham, Ore.), became the first Bruin to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in football this season. Dalzell, a biology major, earned multiple honors on the field this season with First Team All-NWC laurels, First Team All-West Region from D3football.com and was named last week an Honorable Mention All-American by D3football.com. Dalzell was named an Academic All-District honoree last spring in track & field.
Reimer (Sherwood, Ore.), a First Team All-NWC selection in 2017, earned First Team Academic All-America honors for the first time in his career. Reimer, a political science major, is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in football.
Last season the Northwest Conference saw Duke DeGaetano of Whitworth earn First Team Academic All-America, while Hans Fortune of Puget Sound was a second team honoree in 2015.
The last time the NWC saw multiple first team honorees was during the 2014 season when Gregory Hibbard of Pacific Lutheran and Jack Nelson of Willamette were recognized, while Brodrick Hirai of Whitworth picked up second team laurels.
