HILLSBORO, Ore. — Two-time Northwest Conference women’s lacrosse champions, the George Fox Bruins, were picked to three-peat as the Northwest Conference champions, according to a poll of the five conference coaches.

One of three teams sporting a new head coach in 2018, the Bruins will be led by head coach Katie Mastropaolo in the new year. Mastropaolo will look to a lineup that will return a pair of 2017 First Team All-NWC selections in attacker Jess Hanson (Sr., El Dorado, Calif.) and freshman midfielder Jennifer Burke (Oregon City, Ore.). George Fox received 18 points and three first-place votes.

After finishing second in 2017, the Whitman Blues received two first place votes and 16 points in the preseason poll. New Whitman head coach, Kirkland Lewis, benefits from the return of three First Team All-NWC honorees from 2017. Back for the Blues will be 2017 Northwest Conference Player of the Year, Lindsay Schwartz (Jr., Kildeer, Ill.).

Pacific (Ore.) returns Jordyn Godfrey (Jr., Burnt Hills, N.Y.) after the attacker earned Second Team All-NWC laurels last season. The Boxers were slated to finish third in the preseason poll, earning nine points from the coaches.

The Puget Sound Loggers were picked fourth with seven points and return a pair of Second Team All-NWC selections from 2017, as Izzy Amaya (Sr., Oak Park, Ill.) and Ella Frazer (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) are set to patrol the midfield for the Loggers.

Linfield was tabbed to finish fifth with five points, and will be led by interim head coach Brittany Hartmann in 2018. Hartmann’s lineup in the new season will include 2017 Second Team All-NWC pick Mae Seifert (Jr., Newberg, Ore.).

The 2018 lacrosse season is set to get underway on February 24, when Westminster (Utah) visits George Fox. The Boxers will host Westminster on February 25, while the Loggers and Wildcats open the season in Northwest Conference action. Puget Sound opens on March 3 at George Fox, while Pacific will host Linfield. Whitman opens 2018 on March 10, with a home meeting with George Fox.
