HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran women’s rowing team was picked to snag its third-straight Northwest Conference championship in 2018, according to a poll of the five conference coaches.

The Lutes received the maximum four first place votes and received 20 points in the preseason poll, with a predicted finish atop the NWC in 2018. The Lutes, who competed twice in the fall, are set to open the spring season at the PLU Invitational on March 10. Pacific Lutheran’s varsity eight finished eighth overall at the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships.

Puget Sound and Lewis & Clark both received 12 points and are picked to finish tied for second in 2018.

Puget Sound received the final available first place vote after finishing second last season. The Loggers competed twice in the fall and will open the spring at the PLU Invitational.

Lewis & Clark finished third in at the NWC Championship in 2017 and competed three times during the fall season. The Pioneers will officially kickoff the spring season at Vancouver Lake on March 17 against Seattle University and PLU.

Conference newcomer, Mills, was picked fourth with six points. The Cyclones, an affiliate member in women’s rowing, opens the spring on March 4 against Santa Clara after two regattas in the fall.

Mills’ first potential showdown against another NWC crew will be at the Blue Heron Redwood Sprints Regatta on March 24 in Eureka, Calif. Also scheduled to compete at the regatta hosted by Humboldt State is Lewis & Clark and Pacific (Ore.).

Rounding out the preseason poll is Pacific (Ore.) in fifth with five points. The Boxers competed once in the fall season and will open the spring slate at the Blue Heron Redwood Sprints Regatta on March 24.

The Northwest Conference Championships, hosted by Puget Sound, is scheduled for April 22 at American Lake in Lakewood, Wash.
